Took my all stock '00 3500 6 speed to the local Cummins dealer for a dyno test. This was the Cummins Rocky Mountain center in Henderson Colorado (Denver).
I was told the dyno test would give me HP, TQ, and everything the ECM was reading plus the crankcase pressure. After waiting 3 hours for them to get around to the test I was very disappointed with what they did. I was a Superflow dyno. When I was given the dyno sheet it was full of zeros. The only numbers recorded were HP and crancase pressure. The engine RPM numbers were written in by hand. The HP was down, only made 178 @ 3000 rpm. The crankcase pressure was between 2. 5 & 3 inches WC. I was told that was normal and up to 8" is acceptable. To make things worse I walked over to the dyno bay during the test. Something came loose and got into the fan (probably the crankcase pressure sensor). The dyno technician had to shut it down in the middle of the test without cool down. No damage to the fan but I don't like them shutting it down during the test without a cool down.
Then they tried to charge me $151 for a test they quoted me $90 for. When I voiced my displeasure they agreed to charge $90. I asked about all the other readings I should have had (boost, TQ etc... ) They said "well there is really nothing wrong with it, so we just do a "quick check". Plus "this is not or usual dyno technician" But I told them, "didn't you just say it is down on power?" I got a blank stare.
It obvious to me these people are not interested in helping the Dodge truck customers. After waiting over 4 hours I decided enough was enough, paid my bill and left.
Anyone else have problems with Cummins Rocky Mountain?
Thanks

Thanks Jim

I am sure a Dynojet would do a good job. I have experience with Superflow and am sure it would do a good job too, as long as there is a shop and operator that cares about what he is doing.
My experience with Superflow is from using their engine dynos on my Drag Racing engines. I know the Superflow is a good piece, there are lots of good dynos out there, finding a competent operator, that is the challenge.

That same Cummins shop had an internet parts special. I could not order it online so I called . They told me it was list price, I said that it was discounted on the e-site. They, counter man and parts mgr, sait that the list price is what the would charge and they knew nothing about the internet site. Real crummy Cummins shop. They must be a STEALTH DODGE 5 Star service shop.
I e mailed ( not irate just asking what happened ) the branch manager and never got a reply

Cummins Rocky Mountain sucks eggs and probably eats _it too. !!!!!!!!!! #ad

Not from around your parts, but similar displeasure related to lack of attention to detail at Cummins Power Systems here in MD.

I don't ask for much, just quality service. My dump truck developed a coolant leak where the head/thermostat/block meets (some others have mentioned this problem here). So I took it to them and asked them kindly to do what I would do. Remove head, check clearances, on both block and head, and do what is needed. Never got a straight answer on the clearance check, they replaced the head gasket, checked valves, out it goes. Starts leaking 2 weeks after this is done... hmmm, take it back, there idea of a test, pump it up to 15lbs, well no leak now, head on down the road. #ad

Oh well, it doesn't leak that bad but stinks none the less.

I had the EXACT same thing happen at Cummins here in OKC, OK.

Read my post:

Try to find a DYNOjet for the testing you want.

I can't say that I've had a problem with Cummins Rocky Mountain yet, but to jump on a dyno... I know some people that have gone over to Progressive Auto Performance in Sheridan. . and they only charge $55 for an HP test.
