Turns out the Cummins shop in Saginaw, MI has a chassis dyno.

1st question, what are the going rates of running a truck on a dyno--just a power run, no tuning.

2nd, sould I consider running my stock trans with my 3K GSK, #6 fuel plate, exhaust etc? Trans appears to have 150K on it, still shifts good---for now.

What kind of chassis dyno would be the next question. If it's an inertial style, you will have no problems with your trans. Just get it into high gear, let the converter lock and go WOT from about 1900rpm (or as low as you can get it to stay in lockup an not downshift).

Going rates vary depending on shop/area. From $35 to $150 is normal.

They quoted me $150/run.

Wouldn't I want to run in 3rd locked instead of 4th?

Don't know much about DCX transmissions but GMs have much less clutch surface in OD.

Found a smaller shop down state that would do 1 pull for $75, but 2hrs away. I wouldn't mind putting my 6. 5, suburban and Dodge on a dyno, but $450 is a little steep for satisfying curiosity.

I doubt you will get accurate numbers from a dyno set-up to run the big rigs.

PM Pmadrid to get the low down.

$150/Run is way to much. In the Flint area you can get 3 pulls for around $125 (Dynojet) and i have heard there is a shop in Rochester Hills that is around $75 for 2 or 3 pulls. they have a Mustang Dyno. Most shop like to do 2 or 3 pulls to get a good average. If the first and second pull are right on top of each other they will call it good.

Dan I have had my truck to bridgway Cummins in saginaw, and had it on there dyno, It tells straight horsepower only no torque:( as far as accuracy, with a slipping transmission i ran 253 hp with a #5 plate and straight pipe. Mt pleasant high school has a dyno jet dyno but it is only able to be used during school session, they like to see a donation for the pull and will pull all you want. He also only is setup for hp only too unless you can bring in a pulse generator. and incase you wonder if I paid 150 for my pull... no:D

Wow, seeing your posts makes me appreciate what I have locally. I pay $60 for three runs and get torque! If you want to tune, you can pay a flat rate of $80 and get one hour of dyno time. My dyno man is not a diesel guy, but that's ok. I prefer to do my own wrenching when possible. Go to www.WALKERDYNOTUNE.COM and look around at the pics. Blake Walker is a good guy and loves to talk performance.

It's A+A Machine Shop, 810-653-1891. They are just north of Davison on M-15. They have a Dyno Jet.

Last i remember it was $125 for a baseline of 2 or 3 pulls.

They do mostly Drag and circle track stuff. I did hear one story about them running a Duramax stock and after a programer install.

If you decide to strap it down let me know, I only live about a mile away.

Joe,

If I go that route I'll let you know.

Did you dyno your '98?

I'm fairly familiar with the area you are talking about. Used to take M15 south to get to the mounds. Been to the tire shop, cliffs nostaliga(southern trucks).

Sbrandon,

You seem to know the tri-citys pretty well. First trans, Bridgway(Michigan) Cummins, where are you located?

Dan

You are almost there if you have been to the Tire Shop. They are about a mile south, kitty corner from the Fishing Tackle Grab Bag.

No i have not had mine on the dyno. Just bought it a few months ago.
