Competition Dodge 1 OldSchool Chev 0 Fair's Not Fair .... Riiiight?

Off Roading Sketchy lifted Cummins on EBAY

Well I ran my truck on a Dyno and forgot to ask what kind it was. The sheet says "Dyno Dynamics Dynamometer". He loaded the truck for a few seconds at about 1,100 rpm's and then I rolled into it. It made 961ftlbs at 2588 rpm's and 484hp's at 2744rpm's. My question is, isn't the max torque supposed to be lower in the rpm band? I also think that if I loaded it at a little higher rpm and made some boost and then let it rip I could have done better. My goal was to hit over a 1000 ftlbs. Any idea's?

My next question is would I sacrafise drivability to get more power putting a P-pump in? Would I get more power?

Thanks for the input.

He loaded it at 60mph and the EGT's never went over 1200 degrees durung any of the pulls. I did blow off a wastegate hose and it scared the he!! out of me. The boost gauge was pegged at 60psi.

Is that the old Dr. P shop in Wilsonville?

Their dyno is a load type dyno, so spooling the turbo and spiking the dyno wil not get you anything. Also starting at a higher RPM is not benefitial because it gives the turbos less time to spool.

I dyno'd there once last year... . cranked out 384 HP..... I do not claim that number. I asked the dyno operator what the correction factor was... . it was 1. 2

My baseline (358) was done at Excessive Motorsports (503-693-2879) in Hillsboro. It is a Mustang Dyno.

The place in Wilsonville is down the street from Campers World. It is in the back of a ski boat store. The guy was really nice. So what is the correction factor mean and how do I calculate my HP.

I might get to run at the place in Hillsboro, I know a guy at a machine shop that is friends with the guy out there.

Funny, my sister lives 4 blocks east of there... . small world, guess I'll have to check it out next time I'm up there.

the correction factor is multiplied to the HP applied to the rollers. It is supposed to tak into account humidity, elevation, air temp, and driveline losses etc. etc.

IMO a correction factor is not necessary for use on a dyno in the portland area. The climate is quite mild, and our elevation is close to sea level.

That dyno is in fact the one I cranked out 384 on.

a CF of 1. 2 means that they added 20% to your applied HP.

In that Case, try and talk Ralph into getting a Dyno Day going!

do not forget to have him click the sumulated inertia box befor the dyno run... he is not used to running Diesels.

Jim, if you come to Portland make sure you let me know so we can get together and B. S. You would drive that Bombed truck all that way?

D. F. are you going to that Bomb party in Rainer? Let me know, maybe we can meet. I was told that the type of Dyno in wilsonville is very accurate. I don't know Ralph but my friend at the Machine shop knows him. I don't need to run it again, so if he wants to run it for free or very cheap I'm willing. I'm letting the wastegate start to open about 30psi and it hits about 50psi max. This way maybe my headgasket will last a little while. My exhaust temp still stays below 1200 degrees. Do you know of anybody in the area that has the jig for the "O" ring in the head?

Jon T

Yes I wil be in Rainier. I was just told that the Willsonville Shop is not associated with some of the not so respected Vendors anymore, so they may be running the dyno differently.

Get in touch with Piers for 'o' ringing the head.

Heck yea I'll drive it up there, I wouldn't think twice about it, Piers drives his truck across the country. I did last summer, went to my sisters via the Tetons and back via Telluride, 5800 miles round trip. I still to date have only had one malfunction... . tank sending unit, I don't intentionally try to break stuff, but I do have spares with me and tools.

Jim

I'm going up Lo-Lo pass Sunday with the kids. It is out in the middle of the woods, so I guess I'll bring my tool box just in case.

Jim, if you come to Portland make sure you let me know. I would loke to meet you.

I think it would be cool to put some bigger inj. in but I still get good mpg. and I need to keep it dependable. I also thing that if I push it to hard I will have to do the head gasket. So until do the head gasket I'm probably going to keep it the way it is. Gary, the guy in Wilsonville wan't to build me some custom injectors and do a little R&D on the truck. That means good prices. :D The only thing that I need to do is make the exhaust louder. :D It is to quite now. Then get rid of the orange lines and replace them with some braided line. Then I'll run it through the summer and make sure it is dependable.

I have my buddies dirt track car in the garage now that I have to focus on. I have about a month to redo the whole thing and fix all the bent parts from last season.

Then when the weather gets better the yard work and fishing start. So I am pretty much done for now.

If anybody is in the area and likes to fish for Salmon or oversize Sturgeon let me know and we can go catch some fish.
