Competition New 5" exhaust for the poor D-max

Competition Are my dyno numbers ok?>>>

Sounds about like what I expected actually by the times I had been running... nothing but the plane ole' 370's for injectors and no changes to it what so ever, crazy thing made 433/868 in valet mode and even funnier is at 3800 it's making 440/900 and not even setup for high rpm as it noses over hard at 4000. Thanks to Chuck at Alternative Motor Sports in OKC for the dyno time and allowing me to fill the shop full on the new dynojet.

On a lighter note his bone stock 97' 5 speed made an improvement of 80/150 with only timing, sliding the stock plate and a boost elbow.

Update

Went out today and re-checked the timing and it was wrong, learning lesson in pinning the pump with one person. Timing is reset now and went back to the same dyno in actually worse conditions but still the same air temp at the hat so no cheating, new numbers are 694/1179 it's amazing what 3 degrees of timing will do, moved max hp from 3000 to 3200 and max T/Q from 2900 to 3050 and is even more driveable now. Dropped 100 degrees of EGT on the dyno too, 1500@3800 RPM and boost was at 55, down from 58 yesterday! When I left they wanted a smoke show so I did that and it made 62 psi in the 105 degree heat!

I made a 30-95 MPH pass as I went by the shop and the whole road was gone... . ugly... . smoke 30 ft high and covering both lanes, sorry no pics!

Thanks guys... . been waiting on that number for a while! A little more dyno boost and a little cooler temps and 700 is there.

Hey Jim, We sure hope you can bring your 12sec. truck to The Clash on Labor Day Weekend in San Antonio. We are planning for a bigger turnout than ever before of FAST trucks!!!!:D :D

Way to Go!

Jim,

Great looking numbers. I am with the others who wonder about the TQ number being low. I think you should get something near 1400#ft with that HP.

Whatever, you have the power to run respectably out of the way in traffic.

Sure would be cool if you were at Bandimere on July 27 for the Cummins Rocky Mountain Truck Fest. The Banks Sidewinder will be there, Scott Bentz, Local Cummins rep will be there with his 5. 9, 24V, P-pumped, Twinned, water cooled air chiller, powered Dragster.

They expect to have over 500 trucks of all sizes there. Big rigs will race as well as Jeeps and anything in between if it is a truck.

If nothing else, Fly out and I will pick you up and you can go with me.

See you

Thanks for the offer Bob but that is way too far and expensive right now, don't know about the T/Q numbers and I haven't really thought much about it, that's just what the chart showed.

Scott, I would like to come down for that race, really don't have anything else to do to the truck but I do need to go test badly. The Clash race would be good as I'm sure they prep the track well, hope so cause my truck is touch on a badly prepped track, ends up just being MPH runs.

The torque numbers drop off at higher rpm. the advanced timing allows for larger hp but moves the power curve up. making the same torque at higher rpm nets more hp since hp is a function of torque per unit time(rpm).

If he retuned the moter for lower rpm the torque would be very close to the same but the hp would be drastically lower. . getting toward the 2ftlb/hp mark.

hp is a force through a distance in a specified time. Torque at lower rpm is increasing the time and therefore decreasing the hp.

lookat big trucks 2000ftlb at 1100 rpm. . they make their power down low. it's not uncommon to see 3#/hp in a big rig.
