Competition Cam Question

ok, the thread here http://turbodieselregister.com/forums/showthread.php?t=170055 is prolly best to be put here.

I can't get new rims just yet. So I'm stuck with 17" rims. when I can, I plan on have the old 2 sets, one for winter, one for summer.

So, outa the 285 E range tires (big side wall here). which tires have you guys found to have the best traction dry, and descent wet/snow?

I know it's like trying to cram an square block in a round hole, but someone here has had to have E/T track time and over all feel for a few sets of tires by now that aren't street radials.

For the most part, you have:

nitto 285/70/17 E ranges (love the look of hte 295's on my truck).

Toyo open country A/T's that are the same spec.

Anything else? I heard lots of good things of the toyo's but they are $170 more then the nitto's.

I suppose unless it's a drag radial, your not going to get much traction with 850#'s torque outa the hole unless you in 4x4. But I would like to try to do a bit better, I mean, at WOT at 30mph I can break them lose :) wanna prevent that.

I wish BFG's where in an E range with the 285 size. With my jeep, in 2wd I could pull 1/2 car on camaro's z28 and mustangs GT (the 5. 0's mainly, some early 4. 6's). naturally I'd get walked after that, but for hte 60 foot the BFG K/O's A/T's were sticky!

I run THe M&H radial, and with a 2 wheel drive mid 1. 60's 60' with not even the slightest hint of tire spin , not even a churp. I think most peoples probles in not doing basic mods nessary to make a truck transfure weight and stick the tire. the truck weighs 6388 and ran 11. 60's at will , turning in 22. 7 MPG on the 3800 mile trip

here is the formula for this kind of traction .

M&H 395 45 17 stree drag radial

Caltrac's

remove two leafs from the spring pack plus the spacer

if you are going to haul somthing put air springs helpers on

air pressure at 25 psi

LEAVE at just a little boost , 5 psi using the NITROUS EXPRESS NXII D progressive controller and one . 125 jet ramping the nitrous in at 20% at 5 psi boost and ramping it to 100% at 35 psi boost the nitrous is disabled by the foot brake controler.

yeah, but you might as well get out and push your truck when it snows with them tires on there. even with a 4x4. . the stock radials that came with the truck were pointless, I would fell safer and in more control with a corvette with traction control turned off then in my truck. in 2 inches of snow.

I'm looking for a A/T tires that has the best traction one can get for dry, but not left out in the cold when weather hits. .

AS far as weight transfer, softer suspension? it's still a usable truck here, not dedicated to racing yet.
