I have a 2004. 5 that I was trying to install a Jacobs e-brake on I have every thing from the kit except the wiring harness. I called Cummins today to try and get the wiring harness Cummins part #4089281 $410 for just the wiring harness so now I need to build a harness I have the wire schematic from the installation manual (fig 24a page 25). I’m a little confused on how every thing goes in to the relay and where to get a relay and plug and how many pins the relay has. Who has installed there own Jacobs brake? Does any one have access to a brake kit that they could send me pictures of the wiring harness and what color wires are going in to and out of the relay. I know its a lot to ask but I could really use some help hear on figuring this out.

Thanks

The relay has 5 pins. It is similar to those from Radio Shack or auto parts houses.

Do you have the Jacobs Vacuum solenoid? Stalk switch? Any of the wiring or vacuum lines?

I eliminated the stalk switch on my '06 and substituted a dash switch with indicator LED. If you do the same, I think you could make up the wiring yourself for a very small fraction of $400.

If no one with greater expertise and resources chimes in, e-mail me and I'll do what I can to assist.

Standard female spade connectors slip right on the terminals of most relays so a socket is a nicity, not a neccessity. The diagram on page 25 of the Jacobs Manual shows a pretty fair depiction of wire colors, etc.

If looking at page 25 you can see what colors and what pin # of the relay goes to I’m having a hard time finding out where pin # 87A would go. The relay shows 5 pins but the wiring diagram only shows 4 wires I know it probably obvious to some but I just don’t see where the 5th wire goes.

Pin 87A of the relay is normally closed and isn't used in this application. The relay is one used for a lot of things besides the Jake brake. There are just 4 wires to the relay. I guess it is a bit confusing but the relay is just used to activate the vacuum solenoid. If this is still confusing to you, let me know and I'll see if I can sketch up a simpler diagram. Let me know if you need it and I'll give it a shot tomorrow. .
