2nd Gen Non-Engine/Transmission E Brake adjust

My Emergency brake won't hold on a hill and I was looking underneath the truck and only see the one little 13 mm nut inline on the cable, is that where you take up the slack? It looks like a bear to get at without a special thin wall wrench or about a 4" deeo well socket. Thanks

Yes, that is one of the the adjustment points. How are your rear brakes? I would check those first.

You need to fill out your signature so we know what year truck you have.

On rear drum brake models the factory service manual makes a big deal about not tightening the cable until you first verify that your rear brakes are adjusted and functioning correctly.

If you do adjust the cable you need to jack the rear and check that there is no drag with the parking brake released.

I had the same thing, I tore it apart, my back ones need atleast one new drum because something got between the shoe & drum. There were pieses loose for the Emergency brake one one side, I found the problem! I tore the front apart just to look. I have heat & stress cracks, one is so bad the crack is a split in the rotor. I will have over $600 in parts before I get done.



I have only put 10K on this truck, NOTE to self: When buying a used truck inspect all brakes before the warrinty runs out!!!!!!

Sorry, I've got a 2001 with disc rears so I was a little miffed as to where the wear went. I thought the pads rode the rotor all the time. I will fill in the sigs next time.

I too have a 01 with rear disk brakes. There are e brake adjusters in the shield at the wheels. They are not obvious. I adusted the parking brake there and it works great now. I didn't adust the cable.
