I have posted this question before and I can't make any of the the explanations come clear. I have a 2001. 5 with rear disc brakes. The e brake just barely makes any contact when fully on. I see no adjustment on the caliper, just a hook on the end and in the middle of the cable there is an adjusting bolt that looks like only an equalizer that makes the two cables pull the same. I see no way to shorten the cable. The pads have plenty of meat left on them, the brakes just won't hold. There has to be a way to snug these up. Thanks.

I had the same problem.

There is a brake drum inside the rotor that the parking brake shoes contact. On the backing plate there's a rubber plug which will let you access a star wheel adjuster, just like regular drum brakes have. The plug is recessed a little and kind of hard to see.

What I did on mine was loosen the cable, then turn the star wheel until the shoes start to drag. Sorry, I don't remember which way, it'll either bottom out or the shoes will drag. Then I re-adjusted the cable. Now my parking brake pedal only goes half way to the floor and it holds good.

the adjuster on my truck is on the left side just under the bed.

there are small brake shoes for the parking brake inside of the brake disc.

good luck!
