How much did you pay for a new Ram HD Cummins?

How do you do it????

I am fed up with the waiting for any answers from DC for us early 48re guys. Not sure I even want to know. My dealer may take care of me but the transmission still does't do what it realy should, and if something goes wrong out in BFE I don't want to have a bunch of tapped wires/switches for some other dealer to bit@h about.

If you have a controler,

is it with a stock transmission?

do you like it?

what feature do you feel is most important?

Naturally I want to spend as little as possible (no tc/vb if poss)

PLEASE KEEP IT CIVIL

Thank you JRG

If you look at this thread you'll see what information is available at this time.

There are a few of us who have this combination who have a vested interest in the topic above and beyond that of those who don't yet have one.

From all that's been said, the '03. 5s are strictly on their own unless a dealer's warranty actually means something.

On the other hand, so far I haven't heard of even 1 transmission failure outside the Test Program that was attributable to the use of an Exhaust Brake on a 48RE.

That, of course, does not mean that there haven't been any failures or that there won't be any failures. It only means that I haven't heard of them.

DC's position is simple and hasn't changed since the 48RE was introduced: The use of an exhaust brake is undergoing testing and has not yet been approved.

Read the thread, concentrating upon what Carlton Bale has to say.

He knows more about this topic than anyone else here is ever likely to learn and has been both kind and gracious to share his knowledge with us.

Thank you, as you can see I have posted many times on that thread, so I under stand. I am now seeking alternatives.

JRG:

I put a Emjay controller to control a pac brake on my truck, and it doesn't work well with the stock valve body because the stock valve body won't support shifts with the torque converter locked. You can downshift, but you have to tap the throttle to unlock the torque converter. It seems to work much better now that I put an ATS valve body in it. Plus the line pressure has increased with their valve body, more suited for an exhaust brake. Other than that, it's way cool. You can set the controller for 3 different programs: when the transmission shifts, when the torque converter locks up and unlocks, and also how the brake operates. I don't have any switches to turn the brake on. It either comes on when you take your foot off the throttle on one program, and the other two programs it comes on when you step on the brake pedal.

When I took my truck into the dealer for some recall work, the service manager called me and first said that because of the aftermarket equipment, they couldn't work on my truck. He thought the data port cable for the emjay controller was some type of fueling box and was going to put my warranty on restriction. Then when I told him it was a transmission controller to control lock up and pac brake, he said that was okay, and acted like "no warranty problems here!" When I had the two recalls done, and they did note on my repair order that I do have "after market equipment including a pac brake" for whatever that means. That's okay though... I AM my own warranty station. :)

Hope this helps in your decision. -Robert
