My 89 had aftermarket cables from the drums to the junction for the main cable and siezed solid in 6 months of snow...

If you do replace them, get the MOPAR cables as they have the little rubber boots on the cables at the front so the salt and dirt doesn't get lodged in the sheath. The MOPAR cables lasted for 3 years + now that I sold it.

Just replaced mine too

Yup froze the other day, just got the job done. Had to replace the shoes, the cracked under the heat..... had to drive home with them locked-up :{

One cable had at least two tablespoons of water in it... yikes.

Emergency Brake

Had a similar problem with my truck, found not only the cables were siezed but the actuating lever was as well. In fact the stud at the top of the brake plate had to be removed and the stud driven out from the lever. For all the trouble it is to get at the cables you might as well do complete brake job at the same time. Also would strongly suggest that you plan on replacing all the springs.
