Check my sig, I have the Banks E-Brake. I am thinking of installing a direct control switch on my gear shift knob.

Anyone running a gear shift knob brake switch or can lead me to where I can find a good one?

I would like it to look pretty good, not just something hacked in place.

Thanks in advance;

Jim

The Jakes come with one. On my 94 I went to a GM dealer and got a switch for a 2 speed axle from the old 6500 series trucks. I like the gear shift mount for the brake switch. I can't be sure but I think some one on here has a fancy set up for this as well. A search may yield some results ro some one else may add some info.

I have the Jacobs which has the shifter mounted push-pull switch and I really like it. With my hand on the shifter it is very comfortable to place one finger on either side of the switch and just ride along for long periods of time. As far as looks it looks like it belongs there.

I'll second that. The push/pull shifter-mounted ebrake switch is probably the most ergonomic control in the cab.

I bought mine at the local Cummins shop for about $80 a couple of years ago. It's not a direct fit to 2nd gen, but can be made to work. I managed to blow a fuse trying to install it that took out the dash lights and gauges. I could not find the blown fuse, so ended up taking it to the nearby Dodge dealer and explained what I had done. They finished the connections. That was kind of embarrassing. There is an LED on the switch, but no application for it in the vacuum driven 2nd Gen, not that you need a visual indicator. Also, I painted the raised Cummins logo blue.

Say Jim, we had a thread going a while back about turbo upgrades. I talked to Shane at Industrial Injection, hashing out the merits of their SPS-62 vs. their 35/40 hybrid. The hang up for me is my elbow mounted e-brake. Would prefer the SPS-62 over the hybrid, but that would require the HX-40 size downpipe. I hear that it's hypothetically possible to adapt Jacobs 4" exhaust elbow from the '04. 5+ Rams in order to have the bigger turbo and keep most of my original Jacobs brake. Of course custom exhaust mods are required and all the changes have to happen at once. The hybrid is easier and cheaper for somewhat less performance. Food for thought.

Neil

My understanding is that there are two part #'s for this switch. It is called a Stalk Switch. The Cummins part # listed for the Jacobs 2003 - 2006 exhaust brake is 4089657. I saw another part # for this switch but I am not sure if it is a current part #. It is Cummins part # 3870838. I am ordering one to install on my exhaust brake for my truck as well.

I have the one from Pac brake and have had no problems for the last 100,000. miles and use it every day that I drive my truck. They have changed the light part of the rocker switch to a more reliable LED.

I made up a billet knob with a push/pull valve under it. The valve operates the pilot of a larger valve that I have in series with the exhaust brake valve.

12voltguy.com has lots of switches and gear shift buttons

I finally got this part from Cummins and made the installation. So far I really like it. The installation was 100% custom. I wired in some diodes as isolation from the Banks electronic box. I did this so that I can use the manual switch and run the box at the same time. The box provides some features I like. Namely the cycle on start-up and cold engine warm-up features.

FWIW there seems to be a real shortage of these stalk switches here in the NW. It took Cummins over a month to get the switch. I guess from the factory. There must be a glut of e-brakes being installed.

The cost was around $80 from Cummins vice $150 from Dodge. And TDR won't let you spell s t e a l e r as it must be some kind of profanity. :)
