E Brake

I am a new TDR member can someone tell me how the E-brakes work on these trucks. I was thinking I might want to add one but need to understand a little more first. Thanks

Welcome to the TDR.



To put it simply , an exhaust brake basically blocks off the exhaust at the turbo outlet (or further downstream for some models) creating a whole lot of backpressure for the engine . This slows the engine down , which will help slow the truck down . It works better on a manual trans , as you have a direct coupling to the engine . With an automatic , the torque convertor freewheels on deceleration , so you lose some of the braking effect . Locking the torque convertor will help , but trans damage can result . There are numerous ways and devices to make it work better with the auto trans , but not sure if they will cause further damage if not used or set up properly . Do some searching on e-brakes,and auto trans and check with Bill K at www.dieseltrans.com , and he will have all the info you need . If your not towing a larger trailer,you probably don't need one.
