e brake

Have a 01 HO and having problem with jacob brake. Im getting a whistle from it when engine is at operating temps with brake on. I called jacobs and said its probably a leak. Is it okay to run it like this? im goinging on vacation to upstate NY for the holiday. Is okay to use it intill i get back and find the leak? RON

Where do you hear the whistle? Under hood? Tailpipe? Is this a new install?

It's normal for the jacobs brake to make a whistling sound when it's activated, but not in normal condition. How loud is it?

check the bolts in your exhaust manifold. I have seen them very loose and even gone. A leak at the head can cause a whistling sound when the E Brake is on.

Also check for soot, which is a good indicator of leaks.

A hissing noise when on is considered normal. Its just high speed air rushing by the brake.

When I first installed mine I thought I had a leak but figured out with the TDRs help it was normal.



Is the brake new or...

it never did it before, it doesent do it with the engine cold. Is there a gasket at the brake and the exhaust system?Ron

The ebrake replaces the exhaust elbow so there is a gasket between turbo output and brake, if I remember correctly the down pipe has a flange that fits into the end of the brake (output of the brake simulates exhaust elbow it replaces).

check your rear manifold bolts they like to fall out ... i have lost 3. if they are loose they leak . I guess that goes for all the bolts but only the back ones seem to come loose???
