I have a 2001 3500 QC HO 6-Speed, and I'm going to install an exhaust brake. I had a Jacobs on a 93 w/OD Auto. Anyone tried anything better?

Better is in the eye of the beholder!

I saw a graph a while back and the BD exhaust brake had the best numbers.

I have the E Brake and love it... don't think I will ever be without one again.

My only experience is also with a Jacobs. But with my truck being a stick,I couldn't imagine needing a more aggressive brake... this one slows me down more than enough.

BTW Rob, what is your opinion on a Dealer installed Jacobs for my 2500 AT????? Usually I tow 5k Boat/Trailer combo and planning for 5th. Just incase someone wants to clubber me with saying that AT 's don't make good towers: Not all of us have access to a good clutch foot... ..... Thanks for your input. Duraque.

I'm not Rob

What do you mean by "dealer installed'? If you mean DC, you can forget it! They aren't going to install an E Brake on an Automatic (VOIDS THE WARRANTY). You will have to install yourself and become your own warranty station. There are a lot of old posts on this subject if you do a search. Notice no large fonts or color, I'm whispering:D :D :D Too lazy to play with all the bells and whistles on the post today and I have a long chain so don't worry about pulling it.

That trailer was meant for Rob Hanson but thanks for the response anyway John. I know about the voidance of warranty in general but my Dodge dealer said they would install a Jacobs, leaving the 30/100 intact and give me a i year P&L on the Brake... ... . Still have to talk to them about what all they would do to my rattler. Duraque

I don't own an automatic, but there is more to it from what I have read. The exhaust brakes are a bit ineffective on autos, unless you have some type of lockup or something installed. Auto transmission talk to me is like trying to speak french!

Call one of the (or several) companies listed in the links section, talk to them about it. There are several different opinions out there on what is best. The fact your dealer would install one surprises me... is he installing some sort of lockup device or anything? Otherwise, you wouldn't gain much. Just my opinion from what little I know!
