i have a 6 speed manual 2001. 5 3500

now my question is how many of you guys and girls out there have this set up with the e-z only.

and still have your stock clutch?

and how many miles do you have on the clutch since the e-z?

and how many total miles on your truck?

reason for asking is i want a e-z now!. but i cant steal from paul to pay peter right now for a new clutch:(. so im gathering some info from you all to make my decision. that is should i wait till i have money for both e-z and clutch? just to give you an idea of my truck. it weighs 9000 lbs daily and i do tow a 5200 lbs tt. once in a while for vacation.

any info will help

thanks everyone

EZ.

I've got a 98. 5 and do not tow much, but I have had no clutch problems at all. AZCUMMINS has the EZ and DDII's and stock clutch is doing fine. I suspect you will be OK. For what it is worth, I would get the comp box and not hook up the pump wire. You will want the comp box a few months down the road anyway, so just spend a little more now and you will save in the long run.

hope that helps

j

PS - 75K on original clutch, last 8K with EZ.

For what it's worth, I've got the exact combo your talking about. Well if I push the go peddle at less than 1800 RPM, I can feel the clutch slip, and that's unloaded. In past threads it's a known that all stock clutches won't hold the same amount of power. Some guys get luck and some of us don't. I do agree with "J", get the Comp box and don't hookup the pump wire just yet. Hope this helps.

EZ

I know lots of owners that want more power with out having to do all the extra's. As long as you stay at the 65hp you will be fine. The comp box is a good suggestion if you are planning to do the heavier clutch, if not the EZ is for the guy that wants a little more without all the extra's. Con

I have the same setup as you're thinking about. To answer your questions in order,

stock clutch-yes

how many miles with EZ- 45,000

how many miles on truck- 50,000

I do a lot of towing with this truck, mostly about 7000lbs but occasionally my G. C. V. W is over 26,000 and pulling a very long [20 miles] hill. I've never slipped the clutch yet but I don't try to either.

I do agree with the other guys about getting the comp tho, because if I do have to replace this clutch, then the bombing will get serious

I too have the same truck except my training wheels fell off. 28000 mi on truck

18000 with EZ

Stock clutch with no problems. :D

:D 70,000 + miles. Ez went on at 7,000. 275"s at 56,550 miles. The comp went in at 60,750. Still got my stock clutch and it's holding fine. Just be resonable and prudent in your driving. If you race it all the time then your going to have a problem. As an everyday driver using the power to your advantage and not rodding it you will be just fine. Enjoy:D :D Welcome to the Dark side young Padowin;)

thanks for everybodys answers. if there are more keepem coming.

i do not hot rod around so i should be all right than. lets see if i can keep it that way. :D

i will be getting my e-z on monday as planned than.

as far as the comp goes i under stand what everybody is saying.

but as far as i am going is the e-z. and down the line the 275's.

buy than i will rob paul to pay peter for the clutch . and do the 275'S and clutch at the same time. than i will have a peace of mind. :)

well once again a well spent $35 on this site. were could you ask a question and get replys like that . oh i could have called my local 5 star. ya right.

thanks again

We tow a 13,500 lb 36' 5ver with a rig almost identical to yours. We have 8300 miles on the truck - the EZ has been on since around 2000 miles. Almost all the miles are towing. I've never slipped the clutch, even with the weight we're towing.

Not to rattle anyone's cage, but do you think the reason some clutches slip unloaded and others (like ours) don't slip at 21,180 lbs GCW might have something to do with driver technique?

I believe this to be entirely possible, I thought I smeared mine when I was 'testing' the EZ, but I didn't. Whew. Not to mention I haven't had a daily driver that's been a manual in quite a long time...

well just an update

the e-z is great. just got it on tonight. for a little black box i can not beliv the diffrence.

I hate to show my ignorance, but what is a comp box? I plan on getting an ez as soon as my warranty is up but don't plan on going with the larger injectors. My primary interest is a little more power and better fuel mileage. Over the last years, most postings I have read about mileage indicated that I may get as much as 2 mpg better so long as I keep my foot out of it.

Have most of you experienced the same?

I Knew It...

Hey Ed,

I knew you would like the EZ... . :)

And let me tell you, that blue beauty sure sounds mean when cranking through the gears going up the street. :D :D :D

Have Fun...

B'Gate,

The EZ-Comp is a programmable version of the EZ box. It provides the same power gains + 4 more levels beyond the EZ box and can be turned off when not needed. Mounts inside the cab and offers 5 power levels of control at the touch of a button. This coupled with a set of 275 injectors, makes for a very nice performance package.

With regard to mileage gains. The EZ will yield between 1 to 2 mpg, at least that was my experience. When I added the 275's I negated that gain. With the EZ-Comp my mileage went back up because I leave it in 1x1 most of the time or just turned off and rely on the 275 injectors. A set of 275's by them selfs will give a net of about 1 mpg due to having 7 small holes in the tip vise 5 large ones for a regular injector. 275 injectors atomize the fuel much finer that stock injectors.

Hope this explanation helps. :D Ah the DARK SIDE::rolleyes:

Ive got the ez and DDII's. with just the ez (25K miles with it), I can't slip the clutch. Right now, I have just the DDII's in, and I can't slip the clucth. With both of them, I can slip it if I really get into it. But there are no probs with daily driving with both of them, nor with towing. I tow about 12-14K #'s, and only slip if I try. I have 33. 5K on the truck now.

I hate to say it, but I think you got the bomb bug. Good luck trying to be happy with just your ez and 275's. You'll want more later!!!:D :D

Have fun

1. Are you saying that EZ-Comp set on 1 with the 275 injectors stays the same on milage or increases 1 to 2, but goes back down when using 2 or above?

2. How much more does the ez-comp cost vs. the plain ez?

3. I thought the plain ez has more than one power level. How many more does the comp have? Is there any other difference between the two other than more power settings?

:D Below is a direct quote form a member on the forum who knows the inside of what these boxes do. I did a cut and past into a file so I could study this. I wish I could remember who wrote it. It should answer your questions. Read and enjoy. ;)

There are two types of levels on the Comp Power Levels, and Sub Levels. The Power Level sets the power increase under full boost that the Comp module will add, regardless of Sub Level setting. The Sub Level settings allow for adjustment of low boost fueling eliminating smoke if larger injectors or turbos are added.

Sub levels 1-3 on the Comp will provide defueling below stock. The defueling mode is entered if three conditions are met: rpm and boost are below a set value, and if stock fueling is being increased beyond a set rate. These conditions are different for each sub level 1-3. Once defuel is entered the rate of fueling increase is limited resulting in the defueling to reduce smoke. Defuel mode is exited once stock fuel equals the fueling from the limited increase, this way the transition is smooth and cannot be felt while driving. Defuel mode is entered the easiest in sub level 1 and has the smallest allowable fuel increase, while sub level 3 defuel mode is not entered as easily and has a larger allowable fuel increase.

Sub Levels 4 and 5 (and EZ jumper settings 1-3) allow adjustment of the additional fueling above stock based on boost level. Sub Level 5 (EZ jumper setting 3) will add the most fuel at low boost, Sub Level 4 corresponds to jumper setting 2 on the EZ. The amount of additional fuel to be added is calculated, the amount actually added after being compared to boost from the total is as shown below:

EZ Jumper setting 1 33% is added at 0 psi boost

100% is added at 20 psi boost

EZ Jumper setting 2 50% is added at 0 psi boost

100% is added at 15 psi boost

EZ Jumper setting 3 67% is added at 0 psi boost

100% is added at 10 psi boost

Fuel may be added at 0 psi boost on all Sub Levels and EZ Jumper settings unless the defuel mode is entered as described above.

Power Level 1 on the Comp is the same as the EZ, on Power Levels 2-5 addition power is added via the wire tap onto the VP44 injection pump. If the pump wire is not attached with a Comp Levels 2-5 can be ran, but the power gain is not any higher than Level 1, the power will come in much earlier in the throttle but overall gain is the same.

Hope this helps

just wanted to let you all know i am still having fun with my little box.

and thanks again for the help.

and thank you andy (ADT) for hooking me up with the box and your help. down the line we will talk injectors. but i am happy now. and so far the wife is happy also. but when bill is ready. you have that e-brake to do on my truck.
