Early 03 build Engine fan question

Greetings,

Those with early build 03 trucks (before November 2002)

Is your fans electrical harness connected? Went to the dealer since mine wasn't (can see the wires coming out of the fan center but no plug on the end and the fan runs constantly) Dealer said that the early 03 trucks did not have the electonic fan control but had the traditional fan viscious coupling to the engine. Is this true or do I need to address this again with them.

I looked at my 02/03 build and it is connected.

Never hear it turn on though.



The 03 manual says the 5. 9 diesel is electrical controlled. Gas engines were mechanical.

My factory service manual discusses the fan on page 7-55 and 7-56. It doesn't indicate that early builds had a non-electronic fan. That doesn't mean the dealer is wrong for sure, but I suspect they are wrong. It doesn't seem right for it to run constantly.



On the other hand, the computer should trip a check engine light if it's not able to control the fan...

Mine is electric and works like it is supposed to. I think your dealer is missing something.

My fan is freaking me out. Different dealers have replaced a total of three fan clutches on my 2003, and now the fan is acting up again, not engaging, and my AC temperature is warm at idle. Please refer to my post here in 3rd generation engine & transmission as well as in 911

If it has wires running out of the fan, it is an electric fan, not a viscous coupled one.



My fan funs constantly too. I suppose they all do. But it isn't always fully engaged. When it is, it roars.



My fan engages but my AC still gets warmer at idle. The TSB related to warm AC and fan engagement at idle doesn't apply to mine and my fan is definitely engaged more fully when the AC is on. I just put it on Max AC versus outside air and it isn't as noticeable.

Thanks for the replys. I am not sure what is going on with the fan, but I will be going to another dealer and see if they can fix it.
