Early 03 mileage?

A friend is looking at an early 03/47e SO. What kind of fuel mileage are they getting as compared the HO/48e? Thanks in advance.

My boss has a 03 etc/47re. He get's 18-21 highway speed depending and 11-13 with the 13ft slide in and a 4 horse trailer.

03 SO mileage is great. I was getting 22. 5+ MPG @ 65 MPH with my SO.

The type driving (SO/47RE), I'm doing I get the same as SGBARRACUDA,around 16 to 16. 5 mpg (hand calculated). Very little highway mileage though. Usually if I go any lengthy mileage I'm pulling my TT an even then it's only around 60 miles were we go to camp. So I still have plenty of fuel, an I'm to lazy to go fill up to check mileage after towing. I did take one of those Sunday drives back when the truck had around 8K miles on the clock an recorded 18. 8 mpg (unloaded). But this was still not Interstate driving, I have yet to just fill up an jump on the Interstate and go 300 or 400 miles or so with cruise set to see what it will do. I would bet at least 20 mpg. It now has almost 21K miles. I believe some of these trucks your seeing 18 to 20 constantly, are putting some distance on them to gain that sort mileage. I know I do alot of stop an starts an that will use that fuel up alot quicker.

I get close to 20 with the SO 5-speed... . the 2500's do a little better because they are lower and the 2WD do even better. Back when they first launched the new 3rd Gens it seemed that the HO's actually were getting a little better mileage than the SO's with the Cali SO's getting the worse. Hope that helps the automatics turned in real simular numbers to the sticks. The new 600 seems to be paying the price in the mileage department with the "kitty" and the third injection event but not all I met a couple guys who turned in empty numbers over 20 on the pen and paper.



Sometimes it's a crapshoot with these trucks some are stronger than others and some get great mileage and some just stink... .....

SO Mileage

I have a 04 SO with the 48 RE and it compares well to the 2001 CTD that I had previously. The 04 is a 4wd quad with 8 foot bed. On secondary roads with about 1000lbs in the bed I usually get between 18. 5-20. 5 mpg. With a 2500lbs boat and a load in the bed I get 16. 5-18. 5 mpg. And on the interstate running about 65-75 mph I get around 20 mpg (bed loaded or not).

Once you drive the truck above 75mph the mileage reduces substantially

With my 03 HO 6 speed 2wd I get 17 to 18 in stop and go traffic (trip to work is all of 6 miles) I get it out on the hwy and it will get 18 and 19, almost hit 20 once. With the 24' enclosed trailer weighing in at almost 9k lbs on my last trip a few weeks ago (3500 miles) the average was 11. 6 with the cruse set at 70 mph. The best was 13. 6 and the worse was 10. 4. (cold front coming across the country and a hard head wind and a box trailer)



I know if I drive at 65 mph the mileage is much better. That seems to be the sweet spot. Pulling the trailer at 65 the truck has gotten low 13's most of the time at that speed but my rear will usually make my foot go down harder to get there sooner hehehe.

With my '03 HO 6 speed, I just filled up after 338 miles and got 21. 1mpg (hand calc. ). Did not go faster than 65mph, no interstate, no stop and go, just driving back and forth to work (19 miles one way). I have read a lot on here about the poor mileage of the new 600's are getting and I am glad I have the 305/555. Oo.

18. 3 600 lb cargo up steep canyons (200 mi rt) balance freeway empt

16. 8 Empty, freeway, 75 mph



These records began with around 5000 total miles on the truck. All tanks had close to 500 miles on them. All mpg's are hand calcs.



My signature says 48 RE, but I'm not sure its not a 47. Thought 3Gs all came with 48's.
