First of all new to site and love the info. .
I was wondering if my change in tire size is what's killing me on the freeway. I have a 4x4 with 33x12. 5 on 16. 5 rims and 4. 10's, when getting on it to merge with traffic on the freeway, she likes to shift into od/lockup at about 39-40 mph and drop rpm down to about 1500. In my opinion it would be nice to keep the rpm around 2000-2300 for the power. Is this normal after adding larger tires or should I consider 4. 56 gears to get her back to what I am use to? Right now at 85mph I am turning 2000rpm, seems to me I am luggin the engine all the time. .
I know one of you all has the answers to fix this beast... thx

your gears are not the prob--and neither is your tire size-don't go to 4:56---sounds like your a candidate for Bill Kondolay's transmission upgrades and maybe an EZ--these make a world of difference--buy some guages-or you could add the following--bigger injectors--HX40 turbo--4" exhaust--Power Edge box---sorry got off track---you might need a reflash from the dealer and that's where I'd start and then start with the above upgrades---chris

Wow! I wish I saw 2000 rpm #ad
With 33X10X16 and 4:10:1 ratios at 85 (speed limited) the truck sits at 2900!

Skyjacked welcome aboard. I am a little confused about your gears. I have 3. 54 gears and 285's (32. 9") and I am turning just a shade over 2000 RPM at 80. Your 2000 RPM at 85 makes sense with 35's and 3. 54 gears or huge rubber and 4. 10's. What am I missing? You have an overdrive unit or something? As far as the shift points go you can change them if you can find someone with an OBDII programming tool. If you are at full throttle it should not go into lockup nearly that early, you need some transmission adjustments made. Someone that knows more about the transmission adjustments will be able to tell you what and where needs adjusted.

For now, why don't you try (carefully) adjusting the throttle valve cable. Adjusting the cable housing a wee bit longer will give you later shifts and higher line pressure. You can check with Bill Kondolay for details.

The ideas are great, LSMITH... . from what I have heard about tire size/axle ratio, it seems to me that the gears in my truck are 3. 54. . however under the hood on the tag it says 4. 10? I am runnin 33's and at 85mph she is turning 2000rpm. I wonder if there is a mistake on the tag. Oh well, I am going to try the cable in the morning and see if I cannot make some type of shifting improvement. Thanks guys.
