Do you guys think there will ever be another driver like Earnhardt Sr?

Watch that video above. In 4 laps he made up 17spots to win the race! :--)

I remember multiple races where he pulled off what seemed to be the impossible. When he left us, I honestly lost my urge to watch Nascar. I still enjoy watching it when I can, but not like before. When he was in the field you never knew what was going to happen.

What do you guys think? Don't get me wrong, there are alot of great drivers out there. Just no one else like Earnhardt. :{

Answer to your first question:

No, not even close. Also I think he got away with alot that NASCAR wouldnt go for these days..... watered down and boring if you ask me (present day).

I was there when he did that. It was almost unbelievable. But in the same race at the start, Jeff Gordon came from the back of the pack to the lead in a few laps too.

The competition is too great today. The cars are all too even. The rules and inspections are a little better too.

He could drive a car and also drive a competitor in the wall.

As Jr. said (and it cost him a pretty penny) "Doesn't mean shiite!", when he was talking about his own accomplishments in racing.

I thought Gordon might catch his championship count, but am now doubting that. Gordon may catch his win number though.

i have to agree there is no way with the drivers and rules now that anyone could ever come close to Dale SR. he did more for the sport than anyone ever could. without him nascar would not be what it is today. so to answer your question again never... .

I hope not.

Nascar let him get away with whatever he wanted to do. A close friend was at Rockingham the day he took out Bobby Hamilton in the 43 car. He said they were listening on the scanner when Sr. made the comment that the crew should get ready as a caution was about to happen. He then dumped the 43 & got the caution he needed. Don`t get me wrong, he was agreat talent. But he was allowed by Nascar to dump anyone, anytime, anywhere. I just wish Elliott & Wallace were not the only ones who wouldn`t take it. With help, they could have taught him some respect for the other drivers. It is amazing he never seriously hurt anyone. I`ll catch Hell for saying this, I`m sure. Jeff Gordon now seems to be the golden child, as far as getting away with everything. DK.

I couldn't agree more.

I do believe however that SR. did more to grow NASCAR than even the King did. I think the King was more a of man personally but at the same time I also respect SR. for what he did for the sport of NASCAR as a whole.

I actually got interested in Nascar a couple of years before SR. died. It was amazing to me what he and Gordon were able to do to people without NASCAR stepping in.

I still remember the final race I watched. Jeff Gordon took Rusty Wallace out to win at Bristol. I swore to my wife that day that I would NEVER watch another NASCAR race again and I haven't. Jeff Gordon and NASCAR's unwillingness to do anything about him turned me off permanently.

Rubbin's one thing. Taking somebody out is a completely different story.

Taking out a competitor is bad business. Newman took out Montoya (Montoya's first Cup race) in a fiery crash. I doubt Newman expected the results he got, but is was a bit scary at first.

"I felt bad for the situation because, obviously, it looked like I was retaliating, but that's not the case,'' Newman said. "I felt for Juan. I felt bad for the situation and him catching on fire and everything. I did not crash him on purpose and we'll go on. ''

Agreed.

That video clip was The October of 2000 race, which was his last victory. I wish I could have been there. I did get to see him at the 2000 Daytona 500 which was a lousy finish for Dale Sr. It's just not the same anymore.

Earnhardt is/was Nascar... ... ... . they are getting more like the IRL everyday now. It was small town dirt tracking racing taken to a Nation wide audience. Nothing worse than someone whining because they got their slow arse car spun out into the wall while trying to block the racers behind them. That's just real American racing at it best.

I am sick and tired of all whining about bump drafting and how dangerous it is too,(Hot head Tony Stewart and Jeffrey Gordon are the worst)... ... ... ... ... ..... if your not man enough to get behind that wheel and trade some paint then go race IRL or Formula 1.

Well, then howscum so many #3 fans were ready to crucify Sterling Marlin after Daytona? Dale Sr. was blocking for Michael and Dale Jr. , after all. Those who live by the sword unfortunately sometimes die by the sword.

NASCAR stinks these days. All the cars keep looking more and more like each other and soon you will show up with your crew and helmet and drive whatever car they give you and put your numbers on it. I still loved watching the battles back in the day when the cars were actually based on street cars and if a given manufacturer had a less aerodynamic body well they lost, period. The straw that broke the camels back for me is letting the foriegn manufacturers in there. I haven't paid much attention since Mr. September gave it up. THAT was racin'!

If you have to put somebody in the wall, then you aren't good enough to beat them. Plain and simple.

Going by JHByers attitude, then I guess SR. got what he deserved.

That was an awsome ending to a race, and NO there will never be another driver like Dale Sr.

Like him or hate him, he was one of the best drivers ever!
