My brother recently got a 97 5 spd, w/ 4. 10 gears, 127,000mi. He wants to ad some more power aprox. 75-80 hp above stock. The truck has a K&N and a perf. muffler and thats it. The valves haven't been adjusted as far as he knows. What are some easy mods to get some more umph! I'm a 24Ver and don't know very many tricks for the 12 . I was thinking a fuel plate, but what size and what other mods. shoulk be done. Or maybe a set of injecters? Any help would be apreciated. Thanks!!!

Jim can you explain a 215 pump. Is it a modified pump or is injectors. If its a pump where can he get it, and how do you advance the timing.

Plate yes....GSk Maybe

I am going to go on a very thin limb and say hold off on the GSK. I see lots of pre96 trucks and any auto trucks commenting on how much the Govenor springs help. I think for your trucks they help alot. For 96+ 5sp (215 pump) trucks we have a few hundered extra rpms already. I could pull (no noticable defueling) to 2900 -3000 stock. While I think it is cool to beable to pull stong past 3000 it is at the expense of EGTS. I had no EGT problems prior to GSK and did 340hp. No even with a 16cm housing and GSK and increased timing, once over 3000 EGTs get nasty. Pulled to 3600 on the dyno.

I concure that a #11 is a great plate, especially in a 215 pump. I would guess this will be all that is needed. Very resably priced for the gain. I would get get a biggler plate if more power is needed!

Your not on a limb, your right on track!

215 Pumps have more in them in stock form than the others do, plate and timing are a must though!

By all means go with a #11 TST plate. Pull the rubber boot between the fender and the airbox for better air flow. Mandatory is at least an EGT gauge with ANY fuel enhancments. That will wake that truck up a lot with out toasting the clutch. Set the palte in the center for starters and then move forward a little at a time till you find a spot you like and get GAUGES. Set AFC adjustment rotated to the full forward position and then move rearward if needed for smoke control. When installing the plate slide the AFC housing full forward and tighten screws.
