5th wheel mounting

I have a 03 3500 with the tt pak. how can i make a cable up to go from this pug to my slide in lance camper. keeping in mind that i am dumb as arock in these matters. thx bob

If the plug is in the back of the camper, just buy the 7 wire cable the right length and put a male plug on each end and you will be in business. You should be able to buy one with the male end already moulded on one end on the cable already.

I found it !!

Let's open this one up again. I took delivery of the new truck and looked at the trailer wiring. There are not any in-line plugs near the 7 pin bumper plug, but there is a 4 pin trailer plug that hangs under the bumper. I was thinking it would be really cool if someone made a 7 pin harness that would mate to the 4 pin connector, and then splice in the remaining three wires. I figured "not a chance" but maybe I can make one myself. While cruising around Aurora CO yesterday, I stopped at Rocky Mtn RV to see what they might have available. Within about 30 seconds of walking into the store, there it was, exactly what I was looking for. Cost was less than $20. The harness I bought is a no-name brand (at least to me), when I asked how someone else could ask for one, they gave me a 3/4" store catalog. I broused thru it and noticed that Reese offers the same product. I searched the Reese website and found it. See below.

Here's a link to the Reese website. P/N is 74184 (plastic) or 74185 (metal).

Oo.

Cool Ken,

Too late for me though!! I just did mine last weekend (spliced it). If you need any info on which wires are which (by color) in the factory harness, let me know and I'll PM you. No sense in re-inventing the wheel.

Dave, please post the colors, etc. here so that the info will be available for other members too. I will add the info to my website when I get the install done.

Sure Ken,

Charge = White w. red stripe

Ground = Black

Brake = Blue

Running Lights = Black w. Red

Back-up Lights = Purple

Right Turn = White w. Pink

Left Turn = Yellow w. Red

The Charge wire and Right turn are similar in color, but if memory serves, I believe the Charge wire was thicker (heavier ga. )

Dave:

My colors are totally different. Here is what I found on my 2004. 5. The numbers in ( ) are the pin number on the rectangular plug that attaches to the 7-pin trailer connector on the bumper. The numbers in { } are the position of the pin on the 7 pin connector in degrees assuming 0 degrees is the keyway and counting clockwise. The wires shown in bold are the ones I needed to splice; the others were connected using the 4 pin mating plug and the ground wire was attached directly to ground.

{045} Charge = Red (4)

{090} Right Turn = Light Green (2)

{135} Brake = Dark Green (7)

{225} Ground = Black (2 wires) (8 & 9)

{270} Left Turn = Yellow (10)

{315} Running Lights = Brown (5)

{Cen} Back-up Lights = White - Green (3)

The brown and two black wires are almost the same color, so you have to look carefully.

Ken,

I didn't look, but does the factory 7-prong have a coupler connection upstream? If so, maybe the colors are different on either side of the connection. I connected to my factory harness underneath the cab where the wiring runs down the frame on the drivers side. These colors were the same on mine and Mark's truck, but they are both '03's (built 11 days apart).

I didn't see any in-line plugs near the back of the truck. I don't have an owner's manual, so I can't check it. If anyone with a manual could look this up, we'd appreciate it.
