Easy way to drain fuel filter (water)

I am pretty sure I got this tip from Harvey Barlow on the TDR... Thanks!



Every time I have tried to drain the water from the fuel filter housing or changed the fuel filter, I ended up making a BIG mess on the garage floor.



I cut a 5/8" dia rubber hose approx 12" long, crawled under the truck on the clean garage floor and slipped the rubber hose over the clear plastic drain tube from the fuel filter housing.



I inserted the other end into a 1 gallon jug that was 3/4 full with used engine oil and then flipped the yellow drain valve.



Took the used oil to the recycle station.



No mess at all !! Not even one drip ...

BTW... a lenght of old 5/8" garden hose works just fine and it's stiff enough to slide right over the existing drain hose.

i just let mine run out on the garage floor. Then i can use it to wipe up all my oil spots. LOL hehe

I use the garden hose extension also. Sometimes though, it is a pain to get it threaded over the existing hose. Next time I get to town, I am going to look for some replacement tubing, and replace the existing tube on the drain. Make it long enough to reach my bottle without the garden hose.

I'll usually do it like that when I'm in a parking lot, or when I was hauling, in front of someones place that was holding me up. Need something to do to pass the time !!

Good idea except mixing with engine oil the recyclers dont want any diesel mixed in with oil.

It is better to drain into bottle and pour it back into the tank that is what I do.

At least I drain it onto the fuel stop's driveway... at least they have a oil-water separator it gets flushed to...



Most often I catch a sample (I have a FASS) to see how much water/dirt I caught and simply decant the fuel back into my auxiliary tank... so I only dribble a few drops of contaminated water and dirt into the trash receptacle.
