Resetting ECM and HIgh Flow Air Filter ( K & N )

When I installed the K & N filter charger kit in my 98' 5. 2 Jeep I was told to disconnect the battery for 45 minutes to re-calibrate the ECM for the increased air flow. With the CTD do we need to do this as well or because it's turbo-charged is it a non-factor?

TIA

Eric

I see nothing to gain from unhooking the batteries. You might enjoy the extra turbo whistle from the turbocharger with the K&N filter installed or you might not. It's a personal issue. If you do, then run a search on removing the famous turbo inlet silencer ring. Have Fun. :)

I didn't unhook the battery in my 95 Grand Cherokee 5. 2 when I did the K&N FIPK and when I took off it nearly died from the increased airflow and resulting lean condition. It took about 4 hours of driving for the computer to re-learn the air fuel mixture. I wouldn't think this would be necessary on diesels as the a/f mixture doesn't need to be precisely metered.

It's probably for the readings of the mass airflow sensor on a gas engine. Your diesel does not have this sensor,so no, you don't need to disconnect the batts.
