I received a letter for Chrysler Customer Assistance Center today. It said that the ECM on 04-05 2500/3500 has been extended to lifetime warranty because it may have problems passing Calif. smog test. May fail to report accurate diagnostic info.

Well that's kind of cool... , though from the threads that I have been reading here on TDR, it has mostly been the 2006's that have had some ECM failures. But you rae not talking bout failures of the ECM, only it's failure to pass CARB rules, right??

ya i received a letter from dodge and told me that my 06 needs to be reflashed... for cali smog stuff... . I live in nv and dont smog, so im not too woried

Got the same letter two days ago. I have a Cali smog type truck but live in Lyon county in rural Nevada so no smog needed. But it is nice to know my ecm is lifetime warranty as I plan to keepy 05 for many more years.

So does the notice of extended warranty for the 2004/2005 ECM require a trip to the dealer for a re-flash like a Frias is referring to, or are these TWO separate notices going out to diffrent YOM owners ?? I am now confused... (though there's nothing new about that :-laf)

I received a notice from Chrysler a few weeks ago to have my Calif. truck reflashed for the smog stuff and it said if I did not do it I would not be able to register when it is due. Yesterday I received my registration renewall and I have not had the reflash. Maybe I got lucky and it was too soon to talk to each other. My truck is also registered in a no smog county of Calif. so maybe that is it.

For right now that is correct... trucks that are registered in non smog required counties are NOT required to get a smog cert for registration renewal. I think that I'll ask my Mopar Sevice manager sometime on the near future about the ECM warranty.

Remember one guy on TDR had a problem with the Cali smog check the smog computer couldn't read the "readiness computer" so this is the fix . Got my letter too

Called Dodge they said that if the truck ECM has never been tampered with its a life time deal. But if they can prove someone has been into it, no good. I went to Cummins and the Tech buddy of mine has the same year truck to the color as mine. He has had a boat load of programmers on his/ mine has had none . Even thou he has taken off different programmers from his truck there are differences when its done. He ran a print of his programmer removed and mine never a programmer and ( and I know this will cause some I TRIED TO BY-PASS THE CUSSING FILTER) even the one he has had that said will leave no foot print BS. His point is will a dealer tech be able to tell the difference he didnt know. This is why I take my Cummins questions to the folks that made the thing. I will NEVER take my Cummins to Dodge for a motor related problem if one should ever arise.

I was under the impression that Cummins didn't have the software to diagnose Dodge trucks w/Cummins engines.

The Cummins Dealer near me has the ability but really doesn't want a load of folks coming in with Dodge trucks to have them looked at because the Dodge dealers are so inept about the motor. I have said that many times the Dodge dealer's that are close to me will never see me again. I took my truck in to have the trans serviced but before I took it in I pulled an oil sample and sent it in. I wasnt sure about the way the truck shifted when I got it back. I pulled another oil sample sent it in and was asked why I sent the same sample back in for testing. I ask the dealer whats up with the trans. The band that was adjusted could be done from outside the trans (dont ask me what one) I took them out and pointed out how the dirt on the pan bolts was put back on in a way that it looked as if they were never removed. The kicker is when I showed them the oil sample return. I asked whats the chance of two samples before and after the service could be the same? There was no hesitation in giving back my money. Back to the question I know it sounds weird but this Cummins dealer is the busiest I have ever seen if the economy has slowed its not for them. Im just lucky enough to have taken company trucks in for years and they humor me by looking at mine.

That Was Me!!!!!

Yep that was me that went through all the problems with the OBD II Diagnostics

I got the letter as well. I ended up using a smarty to get the monitors up and working.

I guess now there's a reflash that gets all five of them up and working their hearts out. Interesting thing though about extending the ECM's coverage. Does it only cover what pertains to emissions?

macdaddy if you have spent any money on this issue before you could be reimbursed for repairs (the key word is COULD ) its worth a chance.

I was able to resolve this issue without any extra cost, thanks to a Smarty and a very knowledgeable person using it;).
