hi bob my mistake, pcm-j,tec controller, thats watts, required, ,my wait to start light does not cum on either is this related to the pcm ? cheres NED, uk,ok

Ned,

You've posted in the wrong forum... .

Welcome to the TDR. Finally another European member!

That said.....

If your WTSL does not come on, means that the ECM has a problem too.

I've fixed several ECM's / PCM's. Want to send them over to me? I can give 'em a look and tell you more.

Marco

hi marco,av bin reading several pagers about ecms, pcm etc what a mine field ,my truck is a 2000, 4x4 24 valve,i read about every body looking for second units to send to you,the chrysley dealer said its the pcm behind the air filter, this all started with my fuel guage not working, they say sender unit. so while i was in the us last week i bought one & fitted it , yes it still does not work, hence the nice man at garage plugged his hand held machine in &said input no out put, make sence?how long turnaround to itally & back, by the way. harley davidson super rally in rome this year, may, i,ll be there

hi marco ned in uk again, what foroum should i be in, new to this, truck , i read about disconnecting the live terminals on the battery, then reconecting with the ignition on ? whats that all about, is a computor reboot?will it start up after i,ve done this,

So basically you're saying that you've got a new PCM (the one behind the air filter) and the fuel gauge still does not work? The fact is the fuel gauge IS controlled by the PCM not the ECM. BTW. the ECM is on the engine, driverside, behind the fuel filter.

Hmmm... AND you have no wait to start light??? HMMMM!!! The WTSL is controlled by the ECM not the PCM. Something sounds fishy here...

Have you checked all the fuses in the black box in the engine bay?

Marco

P. S. Shipping the stuff with UPS Express, U ship today, I receive tomorrow.

Same vice versa. Depending what's wrong with the ECM/PCM most likely it'll take me a day or maybe two to check 'em out. Just a heads up, the average garage/ mechanic/dealer here, knows sh. . about our trucks.

Yes, Yes, Yes. :)

This MSG should've been in the 2nd gen forum or the 911...

Marco

Ned,

Help me help you...

Tell me exactly what problem(s) do you have? Does the engine start AND run? Does it start and shortly after die? Was the PCM matched to your truck? Has your truck the OEM anti theft stuff ( Keyless remote)?

Then more information, then more I can narrow down...

Marco

ok marco good call as we say here, hers the full story i just got the truck from the usa, i traced the owner & they said that the truck had been struck by lighting, & the dealer said that tyhe electronic moduals were us. truck fine but slow i think compared to a landrover or toyota 3. 0 atuo etc, but since theres no other diesel auto cummins around her nothing to guage it against,i canged the fuel sender in the diesel tank, ie dropped tank fitted new sender still no guage, thats why now looking at the pcm, wheres you address, how many euroes,

Ned,

Even in stock form the Cummins is MUCH faster than a Landrover or Toyota!

Looks like you have more than just one problem!

Does your WTSL work or not? Do you have an idea how much boost the truck get's?

Euro's? Eventually, you pay for the shipping, I do the rest...

Marco

well here we go,the wait to start light does not work. the fuel guage does not work, truck runs fine, i use it every day but seems slow, when you eccelerate at 50mph, it takes, some while ,ie overtaking at 60mph is not an opption, its. its -3c here at moment truck fires first time and runs at 750rpm, tickover, yes it has remote alarm on a fob,i got a spare in pennsulavannia usa, & the chrysley boys in norwich programmed it for me in 1 min, & it works, its a 3 speed with o-drive,

when you eccelerate at 50mph, it takes, some while ,ie overtaking at 60mph is not an opption

You HAVE another problem! @ 50 the truck should be really ready to go...

The WTSL HAS to come on EVERY time you turn the key into the run position. Period! If not... Could be something really stupid like the bulb, I've never heard about one going bad. Have you checked for codes?

Marco

the independant chrysler man siad no codes were displayed, so yes it could be the bulb, i,ll take it out & check , i did see him do a dash check ie all the guages sequence up & drop down, and also the 4x4 light doesn,nt cum on though all gears work, i know on a wet grass slope yesterday all 4 wheels spinning,it starts well no probs, if its slow off the line what else could be wrong, when you put key in all dash lights up ,self check, but no wtsl, 4x4, fuel guage no movment

Maybe it's the instrument cluster?

For the slow thing. Have you checked the fuel filter and lift pump pressure. If the engine is starving for fuel... no fuel no go...

Marco

hi marco, the ecm on the engine, says its a cummins recon, and the pcm is a motorola tried the battery diconnect job still no different, no wstl, or fuel guage, noticed the test ports after the lift pump& before the injectin pump, the fittings look like ac scrader type couplings, handy that , i used to be a fridge eng so still have the combo guages to check fuel preasure, what sort of presure am i looking for my haynes say 10-15 psi at idle ?,snowing fit too blind ya here, o,yeh by the way watched my volt guage drop to 9 volts this morning while i waited 30 seconds to start up -4 at 6am, the neibours must lov a bit noisy tough. so by that the heaters etc must be working,

Ned,

if the heaters cycle then it does not look like the ECM is bad. Normally without the WTSL, no heathers either.

I'm starting to wonder if the instrument cluster has a problem... Ain't difficult to take out and appart. maybe you find a burned trace on the printboard???

The fuel pressure. Not less than 15 Psi @ idle, 10 @ WOT.

Let me know.

Marco

hi ya, the cluster has been out & i have had it out to put a gear selector cable in, when i got the truck the shift indecator wasn,nt working so removed bottom panel etc, found cable broken, so i,ll take it out & check lamps etc, do you think the fuel guage prob still could be in the pcm, the cluster guages were tested by chrysler tecn and i watched them all cycle, thanks for time & assistance ned

Let's say for a moment that the bulbs and fuel gauge share all the same ground. If that ground is burned then none of the circuits that share that ground would be working.

Dunno, I'm thinking out loud here, I've never digged into the cluster. Maybe...
