Bush says it is. Can we have any intelligent responses saying it isn't?

Economy Grows at the Fastest Pace in Nineteen Years

The U. S. economy surged ahead at the fastest pace since 1984 in the third quarter of this year! The Department of Commerce this morning announced that the nation's gross domestic product increased at the astounding rate of 7. 2 percent, exceeding economist expectations and more than double the 3. 3 percent rate the economy posted in the second quarter of this year.

Today's good news shows that the economy and consumer confidence is responding to President Bush's jobs and growth economic policies. The President's tax relief put more money back in the pockets of working families and helped American businesses to make new investments.

All signs point to a strong recovery.

The economy is adding new jobs.

Consumer confidence is rising.

The stock market is up 30 percent since March.

Inflation is low.

After-tax incomes are rising.

Home ownership is at 68% its highest level ever. Housing construction starts have remained outstanding.

Productivity is high.

Durable goods orders are up.

Small business optimism recently reached a record high level, according to the National Federation of Independent Business, and confidence among large-company CEOs reached its highest level in eleven years according to the Conference Board.

I believe it's getting better. Kind of slowly, but that's probably better anyway. Of course, if you are out of work, then the economy is not so good. Been there ... done that.

I think it is doing great, I made a move last March and sold my company stock at a high point and got into some good mutial funds and my portfolio is up 46%, that is great and it is looking even better for the future.

The manufacturing sector in the great lakes region is depressed severely, lower than at any other time in the last 50 years.

The economy IS coming back now, but it sure is slow. The upturn has come and it will only get better until the liberals have the opportunity to run it into the ground again.

The manufacturing business is way up in my neck of the woods. The downside to this is our company is working 7 days a week and deer season is 2 weeks away. :(

Keep in mind that job growth is a result of a growing economy, not the cause of one. It was reported on a local news show here that the hiring of temp jobs increased last quarter. Permanent job growth should follow in the near future.

Actually, the job market is greatly improving. IBM very recently hired a truckload of new employees (I think is was around 57,000). But that wasn't reported by Dan Blather & Friends. Another thing that isn't reported is that when the economy is really down, lots of people will have a second and third job. Then when things improve, they can leave that third job - but THAT is reported as another job lost. It really shows a better trust in the economy and is a sure sign if economical improvement.

I am by no means a fat cat, just an average guy running a small business. As stated above, the first two quarters were slow, but steady, the third started picking up and the fourth is looking very good as does next year. Yes the Fat cats get richer, but they in turn are more eager to hire the middle of the road guy to do their work, HENCE the middle guy now has work and income. Works for me, I don't mind the rich getting richer, it's good business.

Fat cats, i. e. GM, Ford, Microsoft etc, as a rule provide more jobs than does the "little guy" standing on the corner with a sign saying "will work for food". Unless "fat cats" are doing well, they are not much inclined to hire new people.

Bro-in-law (a staunch conservative), has a sister married to an MD. Both her and MD hubby are do- gooder libs.

A few months ago, as she turned into a shopping center to visit her favorite deli, there was a woman standing there with a sign, saying something about homeless with hungry children.

Yuppie do-gooder, while at the up scale deli getting stuff for her family, got a bag of sandwich meat, bread and stuff for the poor lady and her hungry kids.

As she was leaving the parking lot, she pulled up and tried to hand the bag of food to the unfortunate.

The "lady" took one look, shoved the bag back at her and said, "I don't want **** like that, I want money!"

Poor do-gooder was really upset! She could not believe.

Vaughn, I've offered to buy a meal for someone who looked down on their luck.

Pretty much the same thing. Wants the $$$$$ not food.
