Mr. Fielding the front end shop that did the work for me stated, I don`t know how long this part will last but if it gets loose at lease you can tighten it again. At 200. 00 plus and up for a trackbar the Lukes link is a bargain. After all the work that I had done to the truck it still felt, just not right,I also experienced the DW but it was very tight(the frontend was not loose anymore). I had the tires ballanced, the frontend felt as if the DW could come back at anytime. With the installation of the Lukes link the front end feels MUCH better. My next repair will be to replace the four arms at the back of the front diff. Things are much better with the Lukes link. At 50. 00, for the kit its not a major expence. And if and when it does wear out there is a rebuild kit. I will not throw 200. 00 away on another trackbar.

Oh yes,my last TB lasted 6 months.

I know this post is long winded but sometimes it takes more than a few words to explain things. Good luck with your truck.

I just put my Lukes link on this week. It helped a lot and the truck tracks straight down the road. However, My problem is that I have about 3-4 inches of play in the steering wheel, meaning that I have to turn the wheel that much to get the truck to turn. This is also true when the truck is turned off and the steering wheel is locked--there is still a lot play back and forth. Anyone have any suggestions? P. S. The Lukes link was an easy install and seems to work just fine

My 97 has 100,000 on it, and has had steering play for most of it.

Track bar I said.

I buy a Lukes Link, take the bugger off, and it is perfect, like new.

I am sending Lukes back, but I still have a sloppy steering problem to fix.

I really wish it would have been, $50 is a bargain for that part.

I wonder if regular greasing with the Amsoil Racing grease made it last??? :D

HomerDog, Just had same problem on my '01 and the dealer had to replace the stearing box, My play started small and grew over a few days. I decided to stop driving till dealer could have a look, they never got out of lot for test drive... ... After they replaced box no more play! It tracks striaght and is nice and tight.

Homerdog, I had a new steering box and pitman arm put in my 99 for the slop. New box fixed it quite well. That was at 32K miles, have 70K now and it is still tight.

Guys--Thanks for the help. Sounds like I need a new steering box. Can you get an aftermarket or rebuilt one? How much do they cost? How hard are they to replace? Thanks again,

Dave

Dave, I know you can get rebuilt and aftermarket but I have no idea what they cost, mine was covered inder warranty. Sorry.
