My 2wd truck seems to be sprung too softy up front. It is bouncy, pretty much has been since new. I noticed the 2wd rigs are sprung softer up front that the 4x4s. Gradual rollers on the highway set it to bouncing like a '78 Caddy with blown shocks (well not quite that bad, but . . . ). It just felt too soft and I didn't like it.

I installed a new set of Edelbrock IAS shocks last night and what an improvement! The floatiness is reduced dramatically, RR track crossings are much smoother. The rebound effect of the rear axle over big bumps is controlled much better. The axle doesn't get discombobulated on rough roads (I like that word :D ). Also if the truck is parked, it is very hard to bounce or rock it by hand.

The feature of these shocks is the inertia valving which allows the shock to act stiff and has high damping when the road is smooth, but then instantaneosly softens when the road gets rough. They react fast. For you Rancho 9000 folks, it is like running at setting 4 or 5 on the level but then instantaneously self-adjusting to level 1 when you hit the tracks. I think these would work great for the slidein camper haulers (anyone out there have IAS shocks and haul a camper??).

Opening the box and taking those shiny red babies out, it is obvious from the powder-coat finish and smooth welds these pieces are quality. They come complete with black boots and polyurethane bushings. Installing them required jacking my truck enough so I didn't have to compress them by hand, because they are so stiff.

Evan, you gotta get a set :D

Vaughn, Glad you got rid of the stock shocks!

I'm selling a set of Edelbrock IAS shocks for a 2001 2500 4X4 if anyone is interested. They have 3k miles on em. I needed heavier duty shocks due to off road travels in Baja with a cabover.

$100 + shipping...

That description reminds me of when I was in high school, one of my buddies would drive us to school in his folks' '68 Mercury station wagon. That big ol' 390-powered boat rode like a giant marshmallow. If only his folks' knew how we abused that thing!

Edelbrock IAS shocks

I have had my Edelbrock IAS shocks installed on my Ram since 3k (now 59. 9k). As Vaughn stated, they are of very high quality and perform as advertised. The reason they were hard to compress is because they are of a high pressure, mono tube design... just like Bilstein or KYB shocks.

Do they make them for the first gen. trucks? I have a 1993 W250 (4X4)club cab. And these trucks are alot rougher riding than the 2nd gen. trucks.

I think I will give them a try just for grins. I have Rancho 9000's now, but they got a lil rust on them, good enough reason to "replace" them :) Does Eldebrock make a front shock to go with a 2" lift? If not I may have to stick with Rancho.

I think Dan wants my 9000's... he keeps telling me "man you need new shocks" ;)

Anyone want Mine??? Not happy with them at all..... Will try Rancho's or another brand next time... ..... they bounce so much I'm surprised I haven't gotten sea sick yet.

I had them on my '98 and liked them. They are soft and if you like a firm suspension, you might not like them. They give good control when cornering and braking but will let your truck porpous on dippy roads. They do their job best on brick roads. They felt soft with our 5th wheel on too but never let it bottom out. When my stock shocks wear out, I might have another set of shiny red Edelbrocks on this one.

I'm interested in them!

RottnDogue,

I may be interested in your Edelbrock shocks. Can you give me some details in a private email? For instance, how old are they, how many miles are on them, are they dented or scratched, how much would you want for them, etc.

Thanks, hope to hear from you soon.
