I understand a smarty can be stacked with a edge comp. I also understand the smarty has to be on even numbers when being used with the comp. From what I have read the smarty on even numbers does not do timing. Now being that said I have also read the smarty is most effective and responsive used to its fullest potential by setting it on a timing number(odd numbers). In conclusion if I was to get a smarty and use it with my comp would I not be seeing and feeling the true potential of the smarty? And what would be the reason to pull out the comp in favor of the smarty when the comp puts out fuel? Sorry if this sounds confusing but I am just really confused with all the smarty threads.

I think many have said this, but I just switched my Edge Comp to a TST pm3 this past weekend and it is similar. It may not even be a quick through the gears although I haven't tested this enough yet. I do know the TST fuels harder on the top end vs the comp. I figured I sell which ever I didn't like as well..... the TST or the Edge Comp. After a weekend and dyno's, I'm not sure yet. If it hadn't rained, we would have run 1/4 miles and I'd have had a whole lot more data on the comparison. All that being said, the Smarty on even #'s with an Edge product doing the timing is a VERY, VERY, formidable combination.

if you went to a drag comp it would fuel just as hard on the top end... . maybe even harder... ... normal comp still de-fuels on 5x5, they say the drag comp is good for another 30hp over the comp.

The only difference between the Comp and the Drag comp is where it lets the ecm defuel. On the regular Comp, it is 2700, and on the Drag, I believe it lets it fuel to around 3500. I called Edge because I was going to send mine in for the upgrade. They told me that was the only difference. If you have a Smarty, it lets the ecm fuel to 3550, so I decided not to get the Drag upgrade on mine.

How much of a difference does the Smarty make on top of the comp?

Worth it?

If its not, the only features that are nice are the high idle and speedometer correct. Which, when you figure its $400 for a high idler, thats not too bad.

You need to try one with your Comp and see for yourself. If you can find one in your area to try, you'll get the picture. I tried my buddies one night and I bought mine the very next day. It was that impressive to me. The other features (high cold weather idle, and tire size correction), are great to have too. The other thing to remember is with the Smarty, you don't need to send your Comp back to Edge for the Drag upgrade... . that's another $100 buck worth + freight.

The smarty is all about drivability and really shines in the low and midrange performance where most of our driving takes place.

I was just about to send my Comp in to have the "Drag" update done right before I bought the Smarty. Luckily I learned that it's not neccessary so long as you have a Smarty and I saved $125. That's a good angle to tell the wife too... Look honey, I saved us $125 by buying the Smarty :-laf .

I can't wait to try one!

One of the biggest DRIVABILTY gains is being able to switch programs without pulling the ECM. Translate: Sometimes the CaTCHer is fun but most of the time it makes the petal too touchy for me to daily drive, I like using my low end to poke(stock) and then using the full capacity of my top-end also(stock). So I swap ECMs on a weekly basis.
