I recently installed an Edge comp bought from Piers. The unit worked great for the first month or so and then I began to experience the dreaded shuddering associated with light acceleration. The condition worsened and became very annoying while on the road towing. Last week, the unit quit working (the display lights were half on/half off and it would not turn off). I pulled over and shut down. It restarted and worked fine for another coupled of days and then failed again but set a check engine light. I contacted Edge and returned the unit. They said that my problem was not specific to any year CTD but they had seen this before. My question to the membership is if anyone else has experienced something similar and what was the outcome? The Edge folks were not to willing to discuss any fixes or reasons for the failure. They said that they would replace the chip and go from there. I don,t want to be stuck out of the warranty period Thanx in advance.

I'm sure the guys at Edge will take of ya, if past history says anything. The thing that gets me tho is we buy all kinds of performance parts and the notion that an iron clad warranty comes with it seems to be prevalant in the diesel hot rod world.

I use to race street bikes and the warranty on the stuff was non-existant, some vendors would help after you spent a bunch of $$$ with them but no warranty on race parts was always assumed and almost always the case. I'm amazed all the time at what length that some the diesel vendors will go to keep us happy.

High performance parts and warranty simply don't go together, IMO. Yeah the stuff is reliable and most of the time trouble free. But s*it happens some times and ALWAYS expecting or demanding a warranty on high performance parts is unrealistic. I think we should count our blessing on the caliber of vendors we deal with.

Nobody said this was a cheap, risk free hobby. We can't expect businesses to trive and do R&D(for better toys), give us good prices and bail our asses out when something blows up.

BTW Mike B. this is in no way directed at you, just a general comment on what I see too often on these boards, we want bombs but no loss of factory warranty and expect on top of that a warranty on the after market HP hoppin' stuff.

If you want to play, you have to pay. I'm no way rich and money is ALWAYS an issue for my bombs but this hobby his my choice and don't need somebody else to bail me out. Sorry for the rant but society has this sense of intitlement that irrates me sometimes.

Off my soap box,

Glenn

AMEN!

Ya done GOOD fella - but you'll end up an outcast in some quarters just like me if'n ya don't watch out... :p ;) :D

The boxes fail, it happens. Call up Piers and have him exchange it for you.

I would worry a lot more about the $1300+ injection pump being worked extremely hard than the $600 performance box that you can pull out and drive home.

Did you clean the ground better and put tons of dielectric grease in all the connections. I had the exact same symptoms untill I did this... worked great since.
