Just a simple question for all of you Edge gurus. I'm looking at the Comp for my truck (without the pump wire until clutch dies), but I want to make sure the Comp includes the boost elbow and internal boost fooler...

I swore I was going to wait for horsepower upgrades until the clutch died, or the warranty ran out, or some other apocalyptic event. NOT GONNA HAPPEN!  So, now I hope to use the box without the fuel pump wire until said apocalyptic event occurs, then add the pump wire and injectors at the same time. New turbo? Maybe with the tax refund!!:D

P. S. www.usdieselparts.com has the comp on sale right now thru Feb. Pays to browse the TDR hardcopy!

Includes The Boost Elbow !

The Edge EZ includes the boost elbow. Will increase boost to about 28 lbs without setting a code. I love mine. :D :D :D

Beast,

I'm not a guru, but I am a recent customer. Yes it does include the boost elbow and the internal boost fooler. I also intend to run it without the pump wire until the same "apocalyptic event" that you speak of. I chose to use the turnbuckle method to hold the wastgate closed. Can be removed quickly, but I am considering adding a spring so it starts to open somewhere between 30-35 psi. The boost fooler works even when the COMP is switched off. Running it without the pump wire is incredible - I don't know how long I can hold off hooking it up.

BTW - make sure you use the ground even if you don't hook up the pump wire. I should have went with a shorter response to beat DRR. :)

DRR-24V- Thanks for the reply. I am going to go with the Comp up front because I know I will go to it eventually! Seems like these guys are having good luck running the Comp without the pump wire attached (worst part is NOT connecting the wire!).

DodgeTorqueWagon- Thanks for the info from recent purchase. I have an early 2001 HO, I thought that I'd only need the boost elbow. Why would you use the elbow and a turnbuckle/spring arrangement?

works like a charm....

The COMP works fine with out the pump wire, dynoed at 195 with it off, and 235 without anything done to the turbo (only 20psi of boost), with the auto. The hardest part for me is not about connecting the wire, but is the hard time I got at the dyno day about not connecting the wire. :p

As for the turnbuckle, this is for us auto guys, with the 9cm houseing. It's so that we can get to 30+psi of boost. I tried 3 different turnbuckles, but they ALL fell of, and yes they were tight, and had a lock nut on them.

Thanks Andrew, that was how I understood it- elbow for stick, turnbuckle for auto. I am now a bit more confused because DodgeTorqueWagon's sig shows a manual trans... what gives?

Just when I think I got it figured out, WHAM here comes another curve ball to the temple!:confused: :eek: :{

Hard Line Wastgate

Has anyone tried the Hardlined Wastegate mod from the Edge EZ site? It is for the ETC. Sounds like it will work. ;) ;) ;)

Does the edge comp without the pump wire hooked up act just like the ez as far as power and torque ratings? Where is a good place to mount the comp box?:)

You been smoking a COMP box?

It does act just like an EZ without the pump wire. I ganed over 120 ft-lbs on the dyno with it. I ran the wire over to the back side of the ash tray, and let it sit on the ash-tray. I think this looks a lot "cleaner" then where most people put it.

Andrew

Beast,

As I said, I'm not a guru, but my understanding was that the turnbuckle accomplishes the same thing as the boost elbow. I am not using both - only the turnbuckle. I thought that method was easier and cleaner and I didn't want to disturb the factory hose/clamps. I'm not saying anyone should do what I did in this case - I probably should have said that the first time.

Sorry if I'm throwin' curveballs (wait until you see my knuckleball!;) )

John- Can you expound? Are you saying that you don't see 28 lbs of boost, or that you set a code?

Steve- So you used the turnbuckle method to avoid using the elbow? Only for warranty issues or other evil purposes...

The comp has a boost fooler. the the 2001 auto trucks can not use the elbow. I think the others use can it. I know the blue chip pump wire tap plate is one slick set up I have installed one and it is the ticket. Very clean trouble free install. Just install the comp ground per instructions on the intake not the pump wire tap.

Beast,

No real *reason* I used the turnbuckle. I guess the first Comp-equipped truck I saw used it, and I don't like to disturb anything that can't be returned to it's original condition. I don't like splicing into wires either - it just creates a place for failures later. Let's say something goes wrong with the Comp (heaven forbid!) - then I can remove it without worrying about a clamp coming loose in 100,000 miles that I put there. The factory clamp has been tested for uncounted millions of miles and that is fine for me. I find myself often modifying the installation instructions for products to suit my needs. I do have some other evil purposes, but most of them have nothing to do with the truck!;)
