Hi gang, I just sent my payment for the Edge Comp and I know I sound like I'm jumping the gun but is there anything I should know in advance about the box like setting up or installing it. By the way the only mods done to the truck are a 4 inch exhaust and it is a 5-speed manual. I do light to moderate towing but mainly the truck is daily driven. Thanks and cant wait to hear from you guys... . James.

Yes Bob, that is on my short list. Now keeping with the theme of things my other short list includes a AFE Stage 2 filter system and injectors, nothing wild on the injector side. But back to the Comp what is recommended for a setting like my truck?

OK,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,

On the injectors I would do the F1. 6 or F2. 0.

How are you going to fuel it when you upgrade? The lift pumps are marginal at best. FASS, RASP, ???? There is a thread on keeping the VP cool so the electronics do not heat cycle as badly and go bad in 50k miles and you replace the VP on your . 02.

You imply you are going to tap your pump wire. Are you going to "scotch-lok" it?, solder it?, Blue Chip Diesel has a replacement electronics bay cover with a set screw to tap the electronic board, which method?

There is one camp that thinks that bigger injectors are the way to go "more naturally" and only use the Comp as a boost fooler or for the "wire not tapped mode (40 hp)". That way you are not messing with the VP solenoids and timing and letting the VP "do its thing".

If I had it to do over I would go with larger EDM injectors (F2. 0) and EZ as a boost fooler.

If you set higher levels on the Comp the more stress you put on the VP (= $$$ later). Do really detail understand what you are doing with the VP timing solenoid and rotor diaphram when you tap the wire. You are your own warrantee station!

My . 02

Sell the comp and get a Catcher ECM and some Don's 1. 6's. Even with the DD-1 injectors I have now it's awesome, great drivability, no turbo lag, etc. Can't wait to install my 1. 6's!!!!!!

Well seriously I dont plan to sell the Comp. From what I understand if you do not tap the pump wire the box is the same as a EZ. I purchased the Comp with intentions of doing more power add-ons as money allows. If I do tap the pump wire I do not foresee myself going radical with the truck like setting the box to 5/5 and driving around all day like that. It's just my first step to adding more power. Thanks gang.

gauges, i have my box on 5x5 all the time unless hooked to trailer then its 3x1 but have to watch gauges, atleast egts and fuel, watch out the boom bugs are out :D

You need a posi-tap to tap the pump wire ... DO NOT USE THE JUNK TEE CONNECTOR .

At first I over soildered mine and I beleave it was the Doom of my ECM ... . Safest best way to tap ... POSI-TAP

DM

does anyone have a photo of a POSI-TAP? I used a crimp style riggin on my pump wire and I didn't like the way it felt but it seema to be sorking fine.

I installed my Comp a while back but have not tapped the pump yet. With it untapped the box is as an Edge EZ as far as power. The five levels work but they only determine when the fueling starts, you won't go above the EZ level. The sublevels don't do anything in this mode. They do mess with your trip computer, mine reads lower than actual but I've heard of many with the opposite happen.

Even though others have said it, gauges and transmission help (even though you don't have the problem prone automatic). Gauges will become especially important if you have the stock turbo. The comp alone (granted on a high enough setting) might be enough to raise the EGTs to an uncomfortable level even without injectors.

Lift pump help is also going to be important, especially when adding more fuel. I would highly recommend the RASP system. It is a completely mechanical (read: reliable) system that is RPM dependent. This means that instead of losing pressure as RPM goes up under WOT conditions as one would with the stock lift pump, fuel pressure stays steady or increases slightly. Moreover, the RASP is adjustable so one can run whatever fuel pressure they want to. With my mods i have 14-16 psi under all conditions, including WOT.

As far as the CATCHER, if you already have the Comp, keep it but seriously consider the special version of the CATCHER. It's a great mod for low end responsiveness.

Bottom line is watch the gauges and the transmission.
