Rumors as it that I'm getting an Edge Comp for xmass. :D :D :D I'll get to use it on trip from TX to AZ over new year. The transmission does not have the DTT stuff in yet(Spring or early summer)

Should I hook up thr VP44 wire or not?

How much of a difference will it make?

What setting can I run it, without trashing the transmission?

I'll be towing my fifth wheel (8200 lbs dry weight) what setting should I put it on or just leave it off?

Should I increase line pressure?

I don't give a s**t about the warranty issues and I will be installing the boost elbow. To hook up the pump wire or not is more for avoiding temptation of using the power on the stock transmission, as I can't afford to trash it right now. If I can get power comparable to the EZ for now, without the pump taped that's what I'll do.

As always your input is appreciated.

Keep the pepcid handy,

Glenn

do it, do it...come on man, no pressure...DO IT!!!

Well from what I know, and hear, and have, DO NOT TAP PUMP WIRE WITH STOCK transmission!!! I sometimes think that even with out the pump wire it is tearing up the transmission.

As much as the EZ??? I think so. :D Plus you can control it from inside the cab.

do you smell that???

I run it on 5x5 or most of the time off. I am one who thinks that the ECM will adjust itself to the added fuel.

I have not had the transmission slip, just a nice smell I get every once in a while that I think is the transmission burning up. This is only when I punch it though, or I am hard on it.

Nuthing wrong with tapping the Pump wire with the stock transmission. HOWEVER how you drive it and how you use it will have an effect on things. Its all a matter of willpower. I believe Stakeman has his COMP on his stock transmission truck but I don't think hes gone above level III. I ran a PowerEdge on my truck for about 15k with just a shift kit installed and worked fine.

Do you actually notice a difference with it on 5x5 vs 1x5? You can only change so much fuel going through the data port, so to me it would be useless to have it above 1x5 which is "like" an EZ.

Will power?

Kat,

I don't know man I'm a freaking speed/power junkie in EVERYTHING I do. But let's say that I abuse the go pedal, how much would be too much?

Any suggestion for the towing part? At that I don't have a problem controling my need for speed. Also would increasing line pressure help?

Interesting..... only reason I was asking is I have too many other mods on my truck to "test" it myself.

If your a speed/power junkie..... leave it off :D I held off on my COMP install for around 3 weeks while I was waiting for my transmission parts... ... I was running around with DDIII's + Piers turbo, I have no willpower hence I left the COMP off until I could have the TC and VB installed.

Towing I can't comment on it... ... I never tow. But yes line pressure will help towing and empty.

I would just leave the pump wire off for now and see what you think of it.

Damn I knew you where going to say that:rolleyes: That's what I'll do until I get all the pesos for the DTT stuff, knowing me if I hook it up I'll blow the transmission out the rear end within the first day(first hour)"It will hold, just one time... ... ... ... "

If anybody can chime in on the towing part, please do.

I have been running the PE Comp for about two weeks on my stock auto, with the fuel pump wire punched. I drive it on 5x5 with no problem, but I've only done a couple of seriously hard show-off runs. One of those produced a hot smell that scared me. I'm taking it easy from now on until I get the DTT upgrades, which happily should be next month.

As for towing, watch your temp gauges and tune the box accordingly.

I sure love mine... :D

You shouldn't have told me that

Now I'm back to square one... ,,and I tought my mind was made up!

BTW thanks for the info,

Glenn

BFC,
If I were you I would not tap the wire until you've upgraded the trans. Get the DTT upgrades and then have a blast. James Northum is the trans guru in the area and I highly recommend him for the job.

Careful!!!! Take my "no problem" in context. You can cook that transmission if you romp on it all the time. You can overdo it. I like it on setting 5x5 because the low-end response (pre-turbo) seems much better. That's nice for daily-driver stuff, which is 99% of my driving. If you're going to go around drag racing, you'll be buying more than the DTT goodies when you visit the transmission Man.

My reasoning was to get it done while I was already under the hood. That pump wire's not an easy thing to get to. But I also knew the DTT stuff was coming in a few weeks anyway.

Given your earlier post about being a speed junkie, I think Steve and Kat are right. You might want to leave the fuel pump alone for now.

As food for thought, here's a tidbit from a tech at PE that may help keep you out of trouble if you do punch the wire. You have two adjustments, the power levels 1-5 and the fueling levels 1-5. With stock injectors, fueling levels 1-3 actually fuel less than stock. If you're having trouble avoiding that "hot smell" because your foot's in it all the time, you might want to run on 4x3 until you get the infrastructure in place to handle more. Don't worry, it'll still be plenty fun to drive.

If you have any doubts about actually doing the DTT stuff, you might want to head Santa off and ask for an EZ instead. It's hard to quantify all the threads and opinions on this, but if you aren't going to do the fuel wire anyway, an EZ might be just about as effective.

I have the PE Comp on a my stock auto. About 5000 miles so far. Level 4x5 is pushing it, 5x5 in full race mode = forget it! I tried 5x5 while testing with my g-tech. Lockup clutch couldn't lock up at WOT. It did on level 4x5. G-tech showed 281 hp on level 4. Most of the time its on 3x3 for fuel economy and work. If you have the hy35 turbo you wil want to adjust the wastegate. I have mine set at 30 psi.

Ok I sleept on it

My mind is made up. No wire punching until I come back from AZ, at least. I will try to hold off until I get the DTT toys or if I get really antsy, I might just try it ONE time see how it feels... ...

Thanks for all of you chimed in, it helped... ... ..... kinda of;) :p

32 days 'till XMASS:D :D :D

Glenn

BFC, sounds like you're not going to make it until next spring or summer on that transmission.

If you are towing, like I said in my e-mail to you, keep it to the lower settings. Don't even try 4or5 with it stock.

If you decide to hookup the pump wire, keep it on 1 while heavy towing. 2 or 3 with no trailer can be done, but like others have posted, don't over do it.

If you can't resist, unplug the pump wire connector, then you're back to an EZ.

If we need to adjust something while you're out here, that can be done. The first time you try to give it too much while loaded, your TC is going to let you know, real quick.
