I installed a comp on the truck about a couple of weeks ago. The thing just wont run right on level 1. Vendor sent me another one and it does the same thing:

Light throttle, just before shift into second gear, stutters and spits smoke like on level 5. Seems to me like pcm is confused. I was @ Fred Swansons on Tuesday and he had me disconnect the map and run it ,no problems. He called Edge today and they say they never heard of it. They(Edge) are sending Fred another box for me to try again. The thing flat out hauls a$$ in every other level. Level one is the problem. Sub levels don't matter here. Same problem in any sublevel.

Has anyone else seen or had this problem? Need help. I always hoped I would never end up in Truck 911.

Greg, I had a similar problem with one of my comps.

Edge was very good about sending another unit out pronto at their expense.

As you stated... ... ... all other levels rocked. However, 1x5 the engine would sound like an old steam locamotive and give puffs out the pipe like smoke signals. Did I mention LOTS of smoke!

You may want to double-check all of your connections... ... ..... especially the one in the back of the comp box itself. Another member showed me what had happened to his, he thought the connection was correct but the plug didn't seat completely because the mating end on the box had pushed in slightly causing a possible bad connection.

I have another unit in my truck now, and man this thing rocks.

Thanks for the great customer service Edge!

edge comp level 1 anomolies

I too installed an edge comp box a couple weeks ago. Mine will buck and jerk around at times when on level one. Because I have not installed the gages yet, I have been very conservative with the use of the box. Last weekend, I went to level 2 and sub-level 2 and have not had any more bucking and jerking. Maybe I should see about a replacement too... ... ... ... ... ... ? Otherwise I love the difference it makes.

I have had the exact same problem. I just received my third Comp from Edge yesterday and I am going to be installing it this weekend to see if it cures the problem. Level two works fine for me too. I will keep everyone posted if my new Comp fixes the problem.

I am still having same problem. On to a third box this week. I will change complete harness and hope for a solution. Fred swanson was the dealer and he has kept me very informed about this situation. So far edge has no idea about what is causing the problem. The say " we have never heard about this before" Have all of you called them? We need to start to bend their ear a little.

I wish I never sold the Van Aaken. It was great, no problems ever. If the next box doesn't fix this I will ask for a full refund...

Greg,

Give Edge a chance Brett and Aaron are great guys and will get it worked it out! I know it is frustrating but my guess is that you will be very happy with the end result.

I have been running around on level two and with it off. I know that edge is top knotch with customer service. I hope they do make it right in the end. I did a run on 5x5 tonight on the way home and all I have to say is HEHEHEHEHEHEHE!

I have an answer!!!!!

Yesterday I installed a pusher pump by the fuel tank. No more stutter yet. I will keep you updated on progress. I am looking for a fuel pressure guage now.

Dieselboy25,

You are right. I just did a run on 5x5 and then went to 1x3 and it stumbled on 1-2 shift a little the real bad on 2-3 shift. Sorry for the premature anallisys

Anyone having this problem with a 5 speed? Could it be that the autos maintain the higher boost through the shift and the fuel curve is not following right? Maybe too lean?

Has anyone with the problem verified that their IAT sensor is clean?

I'm having the same problem with the 5 Speed. Check signature.

Hey Nathan,

Long time. I have a five speed as well. I am going to pull my IAT sensor this weekend and clean it again just to make sure.

Later,

Yes it has been awile. Let me know if it helps. I have never cleaned my sensor yet, but I caught my heaters coming on after the truck had been running for about 20min, so mine may be due for a look at.

Let me know if you get it sorted out. I would like to take a ride in someone's rig with the Comp installed. I go out your way often.

I recently upgraded to the "Hot" Comp. On 5x5, I now have the surging phenomena when cruising, typically at 1800 to 2200 rpm. And also on a WOT throttle run, I can hear sputtering in the exhaust.

I called Edge and they said they "can't warrantee that" on the "hot" version. They recommended I check fuel pressures and see if everything is staying above 9 or 10 psi.

Buyer beware - apparently if you run the "Hot" or "Drag" version, the warrantee situation is a little different. FYI...

I'll post more when I get the gauge in and investigate fuel pressure.

surging

I am experiencing surging with my comp also,

1 thru 3 runs great, on 4 and 5 I am getting a surge and will set a code on the truck, fuel pressure does not go below 8 lbs, I have tightened the set screw on the blue chip cover as far as I dare for fear of going too far and causing a big problem. I may try and tap the pump wire, to assure enough voltage is getting through. When I talked to the guys at Edge they thought is was a fuel problem or voltage problem. I just dont like having something that I can get the full benifit out of, I am going to try a pusher pump and see if that helps as well. Any input would be appreciated.
