Another quick note that I realized...

I do not believe this is a Blue Chip cover problem. I believe It's an Edge Comp problem. If you recall, when I dynoed last weekend I switched boxes with someone else after my Comp box stuttered. After I switched it ran like a charm with no sputttering or popping.

Also, I do not believe a scotchlock connector can be a better way of connectiing a Comp. Alot of people have done it with fine results but over time the connection of a scotchlock may loosen and/or allow water to contaminate the wire.

Just my 2 cents. :)

You are probabley right about the Scotchlokc setup. I didn't realize you had switched out boxes. Mine only bucked and smoked on level 1. I run around on levels 2 to 5 everyday.

I received a Edge Comp several weeks ago. Just installed it yesterday. I was waiting to install my guages first.

Well it sputters and surges in level 1.

I contacted Aaron at Edge he said I had to send it back to Wildcat Diesel since that's where I ordered it. When I told him that was Canada and I was in the US he said that was my problem the place I ordered it from was responcible for the warrantee.

I was flabbergassed after working on him for a few more minutes he relented and said I could send it straight to Edge.

I'm pretty miffed that I ordered a box and it did not have the latest software in it and then they don't want to deal with it.

When I checked the date on mine it was made in Feb 02.

I was throughly unimpressed with the treatment.

There is only and issue on about twenty trucks total. Mine has been solved. It took Edge three tries but it is fine now. Some of our trucks (the twenty) have a glitch in the ECM. Not a big deal but the guys at edge had to figure it out. Arron will take care of you. P. S. Buy American!

I too have had an Edge Comp on my Ram for quite some time now... in conjunction with a BOMBed Blue Chip pump cover. The combination works extremely well. :D

To each his own but...

running on 1 x anything?

Huh? I pretty much run with it on 3x3 (usually), or 4x4 (if even more fun is called for) however, if maximum strength is the ONLY way to go, I let-'er-rip on 5x4 (it's just a little smoother on this setting than 5x5). With the DD3s, we're talkin' major adreneline dump.

Hoowah!

Greg,

Can you tell us what the problem is on 20 trucks. I'm getting the latest firmware on my Comp box which is being upgraded to a drag comp. Aaron said it would fix the stumble on level 1.

Anytime you buy a box from a vendor, there is a good chance it could have the older firmware since it may have been sitting on the shelf for a while. Also, from what I have read, the stumble problem on level one has just recently been fixed. I guess most people don't drive it on level one... .

I just intalled a DD UFM From Fred Swanson at Desert Diesel Parts and it works as advertised. No stumble, surging, or spuddering on level 1 or level 5-2. It has a manf. date of 6-7-02, so I'm sure it has the lastested solfware. I only have stage 1 injectors, so smoke is negligible. Even at 5-2. I usually run it on 2-2 or 3-2. Fred and I talked about the surging problem and he suggested the DD box for that reason as well as the egt issue when I put Stage 3 injectors in. Just my . 02 worth.

Fred is a good guy. I bought my box from him too. I had a box that was made on 2/28/02. I have a new one now. as for the problem I don't know what causes it. It could be anything. I unpluged the map sensor and it went away. Must have had something to do with it? Fred was my witness to the bad stumble. All is fine now. Truck runs Great. I get my new turbo next week. HX-40

Hey tmacc good to see you put some power in that thing. :D I am also thinking of going to DD III's since the DD II's do not go over 1000 deg towing. The UFM with or without injectors is a blast. Ken

I ran a DD-UFM race version and had the surge in level 5... . I replaced it with a PE-Comp race version and problem is gone! If you have a problem give the guys at Edge a chance to fix it my guess is they will.

Doug

fj40charles, I would say more people drive on level 1, than most of us think.

DEZLPWR, come done to the bad air of Arizona, then you'll be looking for level one. You all need to share that good air more.

110 degrees, the last 3 days, makes you look for ways to get rid of the smoke.

With that heat, I usually run on 1,3 most of the time. That was with the DD3's.

I just switched back to DD2's for the hotter months, and now run on 1,5.

Greg, I've got another new toy for you to try. Are you ready?

I was told level 1 is the same as the EZ. I would think that is more than enough for everyday driving. I don't see the need to run it levels any higher unless someone wants to play...

Does anyone know if the timing advance is same as an EZ box?

Thanks Ken, Just step 4 of that 12 step BOMBing program. :D When's the B-1 showing up?

Concerning Comp levels. When I was talking to Bill K about new transmission parts, He suggested leaving the comp in the lower levels for around town driving, but when you put on level 5, drive it like you stole it. Unfortunately, I really haven't had a chance to open the thing up. Too much traffic on the local 2 lane roads.
