Looking into purchasing the edge comp but don't know what else I should upgrade with the comp. I have a 2001, 2500 4x4 quad, auto trans. 3. 54 gears, 315/75-16 pro comp, all stock except for 5" exhaust turbo back and 5" skyjacker lift. looking for more street performance but nothing to crazy. I also tow a 30' race car trailer about 4 times a year with my Ram. any help is appreciated. This is my daily driver. :D

transmission upgrades may come soon after the Comp. You may want to upgrade your 9cm housing to a 12cm from a manual truck... turbo housing, that is.

BLucia that set up you mention works good for me as long as I stay below 3X5, any thing higher and I can roll thru the stock clutch :-laf I guess you know what I will be doing in a little bit ;)

fun,fun, fun

went to Charlotte NC a few weeks ago to Rowells Truck center with the idea that I was getting a BD exhaust brake, Torqloc and Pressureloq (to help keep the torque converter and trans clutches hooked up when using the exhaust brake) Well while I was there they made me a deal on a Comp Edge that I couldn't refuse.

Already I notice a significant difference in how the truck performs and fuel mileage has increased a couple of mpg while not towing. I have pretty much resolved to leave it at the 1 x 5 setting until I upgrade the transmission and TC (mine has 224K miles on it). I run guages to keep everything in check... I can't believe the difference in power and how the truck drives. I'll be pulling my 5th wheel tomorrow so we'll see where the EGT's run.

I see an new TC/Transmission and exhaust system in the near future. BTW I have selected 3X5 a few times and the power is impressive!!!!

This would require a turbo change, not just the housing. The HY housing is not compatible with the HX housings.

With that gear ratio and tire, the trans will take a beating. Anything over level 1 will be too much for the stocker. Mine started slipping with an EZ on the least aggressive setting after 2 months.

Of course, as others have stated, gauges first. Then empty your pockets for fun.

what ian said, how about that trans ian?

definitely get gauges!!!

i run mine 5x5

time for injectors

What a stock trans with 130K wont hold up to that? dont forget a PDR HX40 (soon to be installed)

Dont stress, Greg will have the truck soon enough :D

Ian

Guages are an absolute must before you hook up the Comp. With the Comp you have the nice ability to have selective Manuvering power. ;)

Ya just have to be in the right place at the right time. Chaz has been wording the HX40 for a couple weeks before I snagged it :D

PDR 16cm housing muuuahhhhh haa haaa (evil laugh) :-laf

Install saturday evening in Chesterfield Oo.

BLucia- youre going down a dark tunnel with the bombing bug  there is a light at the end but the visibility is down due to smoke :D Id do trans upgrades first!

Maybe I can get it on a dyno and try for 400 hp on a stock trans? (not for long though)

thanks for all the replies. after listening to all of you maybe i will just go with the ez. it seems like that may be a better choice for me to start with! :)

Nooooooo go with the comp, and DONT tap the wire and that will be your 'EZ' when you want to upgrade TAP the wire and you will be extremely happy

BLucia In all seriousness I would go with some gauges first. EGT, Boost and Fuel pressure. After that I would go with a Comp. It can be used as a EZ with out tapping the wire, and if some day you decide you want more then and only then you can tap the wire. Its just a little more initial money up front but you have more options eventually.

Sorry to see your Thread got Hi-Jacked at times, with out a lot of good input for your concerns, but my honest opinion is going this way (gauges Comp)
