Hello Everyone,

I just purchased the Edge CTS3. I bought it to be able to read all my temperatures. I didn’t realize that I needed to purchase all the extra probe and sensor kits in order to do that. Am I wasting my money here just to be able to read transmission temp, EGT, Etc?

thank you

What year truck? Is your truck deleted?

I like the idea of being to see the EGT's and transmission temps plus Boost when towing my 5ER.

Now I believe with the 4TH Gen trucks the OBD2 port can provide a lot of the information that you are looking for. I would do a search in the 4TH Gen forum for CST3 use. I believe one of the members and author in the quarterly publication from TDR wrote up an article using the CST3 with published results.

If you are deleted and tuned, yes you will need an external probe. (tuning and deleting removes and disables the factory temp probes/sensors)

If you are stock it should be able to read all the factory temp probes, EGT1-5. I just looked at the Edge web site to verify and there seems to be a bunch of bad reviews lately so not sure what is going on? Sounds like they are having issues with the CTS3 so will be interested to hear how it works for you, thought about getting one myself.

My truck is stock. It is only allowing me to see IAT and ECT.

Maybe that's why all the bad reviews the past couple of months? Here is a list from the site of what it should monitor. All 5 EGT sensors are listed

"Accel Pedal Position, Ambient Air Temp, Barometric Pressure InHg, Battery Voltage, Charge Flow, Charged Air Cooler Outlet Temp, Comp. Inlet Density, Compressor Outlet Temp, Corrected Speed, DEF Line Pressure, EGR Cooler Efficiency, EGR Flow, EGR Valve Position, EGT1 DOC Inlet, EGT2 DOC Outlet, EGT3 DPF Outlet, EGT4 Cat Mid Bed, EGT5 Cat Outlet, Engine Coolant Temp, Engine Fan Speed, Engine Load, Engine RPM, Fuel Level Remaining (Calc), Fuel Rail Pressure, Fuel Rail Pressure Com, G Force, G Force Calculated, G Force Lateral, Gear & TCL (Auto Only), Horse Power, Intake Air Temp, Intake Air Throttle Pos, Manifold Abs Pressure, Mileage Avg., Mileage Coach, Mileage Inst., Percent Grade, Regeneration Status, Run Time, Torque, Torque Converter Temp (Aisin only), Trans Temp (Auto Only), Trip Odometer, Turbo Boost , Turbo Comp Inlet Temp, Turbocharger Speed, Vehicle Odometer, VGT Actuator Position, Transmission line pressure"

My truck is a 2005 Dodge Ram 3500 5.9l.

Oh, disregard everything I posted earlier, thought this was a newer truck.

According to the Edge web site...... "98.5-2005 Dodge/Ram coverage coming soon!" so you may have a lot of stuff that doesn't work on your 2005 at this time. Not to mention (if I remember correctly) a 2005 doesn't have a stock EGT sensor so you definitely need an aftermarket one to get that to work.

Thank you MtnRider. I was going to give Edge a call today so that helps out quite a bit.

I have the original Edge CTS and for my 2006 truck I had to expand to transmission (manual G56), rear end, fuel pressure, and oil pressure in addition to the supplied EGT probe. The automatic transmission may have been covered but I can't remember. Edge used to have what was covered by model year but I could not find it the last time I looked on their website. Over the last couple of years I have started to get readings that I am starting to question like EGT's under a 100 degrees. On a recent trip the temp on the rear end was pegging at 302 degrees but later in the return trip it settled down to normal temps without any change in driving conditions other that a little lower ambient temperature. I'm losing confidence in this set up even though the concept is great. I'm going to be looking at my options but it won't be an Edge CTS3.

Thank you CVR222NV. I think I might be returning the unit and just eating the shipping/brokerage fees.

You may need to update the firmware on yours if you haven't done so for a while. The Insight CTS I had on my 2001 would get goofy like this at times when it needed updated. Had the EGT probe and pressure sensor daisy chained in for a lift pump pressure gauge on it. So far the CTS 2 on my 2012 has been great. I like having all the parameters I want to monitor right in one smaller area, not lined up the pillar on gauges, but this is personal preference. You must choose what you like and prefer.

Adam: I know on my CTS 2 it should show the trans temp, but don't a truck of your model year to test this on. It claimed it could when I bought it an extra sensor. May look at a CS 2 unless you really want the touch screen.

Yes I did the update and even went so far as to email Edge customer service and while they timely responded the only solution they provided was to purchase a new EGT probe set up on my dime. I'm currently purchasing a MM3 with the EGT add on so that will solve monitoring the EGT's. Just need to determine what to do with the other items I was monitoring.

Any update on this CV22NV? I too have a 2005 and want to monitor EGT and transmission temp when towing. The CTS3, according to their website as of today, along with their EGT EAS will do just that.

I already have a modified A pillar mount so this would give me a nice clean look.

No update. Currently in the process of pulling the motor for a rebuild. I will not add the MM3 platform until it's done. Since both platforms use the OBDII port I plan on using both platforms one at a time for comparison. I have a second tap point for an EGT probe on my exhaust manifold where I will add the MM3 probe so I can compare to each other as to EGT monitoring. All I know is that I was getting intermittent bad readings from my CTS as to EGT and rear end temps.

That's the same A-Pillar mount I have. Works great!
