Have a 99 CTD with Auto trans. @ 90k miles on original trans. . I was wondering if the EDGE EZ will push the trans over the edge. Not looking to rebuild trans anytime soon if possible, but always looking for performance improvements without voiding extended warranty.

TIA,

Clay

Based on what I have gleaned here and from others is that it sorta depends on you and your foot... ... . driven wisely it probably will not kill your transmission in the short term but it will ultimately shorten its life... ... unless you do some upgrades to the tanny to support it... ...

Bombing

Not true!

Just don't have the endless supply of $$$$$ that them Boeing Management types have... . Know what I mean bro?

Call Bill K. and talk to him about running one of his valve bodies with an EZ, he sells them as a kit and yes they are not that much trouble to install, I just don't know when Dodge did the seal updates on our trannies, then later you could do the clutch update and converter. DTT's V/B will cure lots of issues with your transmission.

clutch seals

As of '02 the clutch drum seal was still the same. No update on the factory front. Valvebody would be a good start.

If you have an extended warranty and want to keep it intact you should contact your warranty underwriter and see if modifications will void warranty.

EDIT:: comparison purposes only

I believe in a 99 model year truck the transmission will live longer than in a newer year model simply because the 99 starts out with less HP. In my truck the stock HP at the rear wheels was 171. 9 ( approx. 215 BHP) and after adding the stage 1 injectors I had 232 ( approx. 270 BHP) at the rear wheels, which should be close to what you expect out of the EZ.

CATCRACKER

Your not alone, really bad towing with 9000lbs. Noticeable mostly in 1st . Beef up the transmission first.

it only took me one hour with an ez hooked up to get my t. c. to slip. it felt like an earthquake. a replacement dtt transmission cured all. after the trans slips once, you are already in trouble. i unpluged the ez and on hills locked up it would still slip. could not tow until new trans was put in.

Edge EZ

klaybus: Don't let anybody kid you on this subject. The stock trany won't take any extra power upgrades unless you drive like an old lady. The stock trany isn't available with the HO package at only 10 more hp, that says it all. If you want more power than build the trany first. Its not as much fun but the better route to go. DW

Just watch how you drive if you tow. I put an EZ on a guys truck (99 auto) awhile back and really wasn't that blown away by the power bump. I think if you drive with some sense, especially if towing, you won't have any trouble for some time.

Auto Trans & EZ

Thanks for all the input fella's! I think I'll go with my 1st instinct & hold off on the MODS until I get the transmission in order. This is the 1st vehicle I actually love to drive & I've only had it a month & would kinda like to drive it a while before I break it! (transmission)

Thanks all,

Clay
