Hi Boys,

I am looking to add one power-adder to my truck and I am looking at the edge ez or smarty. I am not looking to pierce the wire or do anything crazy, I just want to have more performance. Based on all the threads I see about the smarty, it appears to be the thing to buy. But the difference in price has got me wondering if I should go with the smarty. They both claim the same amount of HP, so I am trying to figure out if it is worth the extra $$.

Since I am not going go crazy, would the Edge EZ be good enough? The difference in price is over $200 bucks. Let me know what you guys think. .

Thanks

Mike

If you just want to add a little HP, the EZ is probably good enough. The Smarty's more about driveability, throttle response and would give you a ton more flexibility than the EZ though. If it's one or the other I'd go with the Smarty.

Smarty or EZ!

I've enjoyed the power enhancement of an Edge EZ for six trouble free years now,but after trying a loaner Smarty, there's no comparison. Driveability is much enhanced with the Smarty with the only drawback being the low rpm smoking issue. This can be addressed with a user adjustment of pedal pressure or a possible future download. Go for the Smarty and keep it tuned on the lower numbers until you get your transmission beefed up.

Smarty and the EZ - no problems in choosing between those two. Just put the Smarty on my truck a couple of days ago - talk about waking a truck up!! They're awesome.

Same vote here. I have ran with edge's timing with my comp. Sold that for the Smarty and have never looked back.

There is a big difference (at least to me) in the way that edge and Smarty get you that extra horsepower.

I tried a loaner smarty for a week, but I've had the edge comp for 2years. I'd trade the comp for a smarty in a heartbeat! It is way more fun to drive with smarty. I am ordering one soon... ... . My girlfriend said she wanted a rock before I roll, but that is paid off now. Smarty is coming soon!

damn that would be a tough one to decide smarty or ring for the girl friend. Guess thats why i dont have a girlfriend at the moment.

Yeah, but she made homemade lasagna & texas toast. Then she made me decide. That was some damn good lasagna.

Just curious but can't you "stack" both the Smarty and the EZ? EZ would provide the additional HP/Torque and the Smarty would address the driveability issues (throttle response)?

Yes, Ez, comp, drag comp, all stack with the smarty. Marco designed smarty to work with timing boxes like these.

Why not sell the EZ and use the smarty alone for timing? One less box to fail, and less connections. Just asking. . Maybe the EZ gives a better timing curve??

when I stacked the ez it only added 3 hp over the smarty alone. The timing curve in the smarty is much better than just adding timing on top.

Smarty w/EZ

I ran a Smarty/EZ combo on the non-timing setting with a loaner unit. I failed to try it with the EZ disconnected. Bob's got me on the list again for another loaner. Interesting to see if there is a difference. Smarty is so much more responsive. I would have to learn to control the throttle at intersections though. Really hazed out the people behind me. I had it set @ #8.

Thanks for the info BW. . One of these weeks, will probably be sending you an inquiry on a smarty since youve been so helpful to the gang. .

BB, Thats why I just sold my VA box because although it was fun hotrodding around town with the quick response of it combined with 100Hp injectors, sometimes it was a little annoying when just putting by the beach. Ended up selling the VA (my favorite box to date) and will probably go with a smarty someday to run it on a lower setting w/ timing added. Without the timing box, even with inj's and an APB tap wire box, it lost the quick spooling when wanted.

A nice feature of the smarty is the ability to eliminate extra boxes and connections, since it serves multiple purposes. Also adjust the responsivness to your liking without having to change parts.
