Well I got it installed. and now I have a few questions. I just took it for a short run, so I have limited exposure so far. But I did notice a few things that made me wonder.

First, i looked at the records and saw it had recorded 2% slippage, and 1% backdown. That was on tho 0, or stock level. What gives there? I understood the backdown feature to work only when you are in a level above stock. I pull quite a bit with this truck and so I am sure the clutch does not slip. Is this normal to get this minimal reading?

I did not install the optional boost elbow. The max boost I saw was 24. Is this normal for this truck? I read somewhere on here where people were stating 30-35 lbs of boost stock.

I will probably have a couple more ?'s in the next few days as I play with it.

Thanks in advance for input.

Backdown % and slippage % at that figure is pretty close to nothing. I would always see some level of backdown and slippage reguardless of settings on mine. I believe that most will see lower levels all the time. I would not worry about that level, start to worry when you see slippage % in double figures. Backdown is gonna be dependant on settings, conditions and your right foot.

Your boost level is normal for an 03, they run 24 to 26. If you install the boost elbow you'll see more like 34 and you should see a little less smoke. It doesnt seem to make much of a performance difference though.

Thats what I was guessing. Thanks. I am trying to establish a baseline before I start playing with the unit much. I know how these things go, once I start it might be too late.

Thanks also. I'm thinking for now I'll probably not install the boost elbow. I am hoping for the increased mileage mostly. I have promised myself to not get too crazy and compromise the truck.

Sounds like most are seeing the best mileage #'s on level 3 when empty. Are you guys gaining any mileage towing? If so what settings are you using, and what kind of gains? I am not unrealistic, but a MPG or two would be good.

It allows higher boost before allowing the wastegate to open. In this application it is supposed to allow boost to rise to 36-40 lbs.

How is this accomplished when the wastegate is controlled electronically? Does this elbow send a "fooled" signal to the boost sensor for the wastegate to open later?

Good question. Maybe the more knowledgeable will share. My guess is yes it does fool it into submission. I know on the old 12 valve 2nd genner, I installed a boost elbow that actually had a set screw that let you manually adjust your max boost. According to Edge, the juice works fine with or without it. It seems that the advantage in the boost elbow changeover would be realized only in cases where the truck had more high end, high performance mods.
