While pulling a very steep mountain road, towing about 11000 lbs,in 4w low my engine temp went to about 220*. Shortly after hitting that temp my Edge juice shut/attitude turned off. Needless to say the sudden loss of power was not good. I did make it to the top of the mountain, very slowly. The next day the Juice fired up and has worked great. Is there a shutdown built in for over temp in the Juice?

Do you mean the Edge stopped adding power or the screen went blank?

They do have coolant protection built in, which should reduce power. 225° is the max allowed temp on an 04 per Cummins. That's the temp I would set the E J/A at.

As for coolant temps when towing at slow speeds I presume you were 4Lo and 2nd gear? Be sure to put the gear selector in 2 so the tq converter will lock. Also try to keep the rpms at 2000-2500 for improved coolant flow and fan operation.

If that is a condition you get to often I would look at exhaust manifold blankets, they really lower the underhood temps which helps on slow speed, high load conditions.

Thank you for the reply. Yes, the screen went blank. I really wasn't in a good place to loose power. I believe at the time I was in low and 4w low. It was a real surprise I haven't had that happen before.

I would verify the OBDII connection and if that is good give Edge a call that's certainly not normal.

Being in low/low you probably weren't getting much power from the Edge as even as heavy as you can get the torque multiplication is huge in that gearing.
