... when the Comp is installed with EVERYTHING BUT the VP44 wire connected, and set for level 1, it's just like running the plain EZ!;) :D

SO - yesterday, I ordered my Comp - and will initially install it as above, and still have mucho additional power in reserve when circumstances permit and I get foolish... :D

Thanks to all who provided helpful info in my other thread on the subject - a couple of fellas indicated they were interested in doing the same thing, so there ya go!

Ditto on what Gary said. . I always thought PE comp level 3 was like an EZ, but Aaron explained that leve 1 is the same power as an EZ.

I really do like the adjustability of the PE Comp box. With DD2's and comp on 1x1, I cannot get the truck to smoke at all. The power is not there, but it gives you options if you want to run some DD3's or larger showerheads.

I can't wait for SBC clutch so I can finally realize the "power. "

I have to thank Scott at Mass Diesel for explaining that to me as well! Thanks a million for all the questions you answered for me! I can't wait until it arrives tomorrow! Going camping friday and want to see how it will tow with the comp on!

"Going camping friday and want to see how it will tow with the comp on!"

Be SURE to get back to us with all the gory details - I won't have mine for a few days - and even longer before I get to try it in a pulling situation - boost and EGT, before/after readings would sure be nice as well... ;) :D

I wouldnt crank the comp to high when towing.

I'm only going to run it on 1 or 2, I still only have a stock auto! I haven't hit over 1150 so far on EGT's while towing, so we'll see how it goes this weekend! :D

"I wouldnt crank the comp to high when towing. "

Since I'm BUYING it to USE towing, seems pretty foolish to not USE it for that purpose - and the guy at Edge certainly didn't indicate any restrictions for its use...

Do you know something the rest of us don't?

However, I *do* get the impression that cranking the Comp above level 1 without connecting the pump wire MIGHT not deliver any additional power increases...

There are no restrictions, other then common sense! Meaning... ... EGT's and clutch. This is even WITHOUT the pump wire attached.

However if YOU don't hook up the pump wire then you won't have as much to worry about since you will not get any of the "major" fueling the pump wire provides.

And without the pump wire attached you won't get anymore power then an EZ would provide.

Just curious have you read any of the old posts on this type of thing?... the EZ, COMP, etc?

Are you trying to say that without the pump wire, that you will get more power on level 5 as level 1? If that is the case, it does not matter what level it is on, it is the same power. I dynoed without the pump wire and got 233hp with it on 1x1, and 233hp with it on 5x5. No difference in power without the pump wire. Now if you connect the pump wire, different story.

Put the tilt wheel in full upright position

I have pulled ~8500 lbs. on level 3 and it is really not necessary. The only problem above level 3 is EGT and clutch or auto slipping.

You will really enjoy towing with the comp. makes the drive more relaxing.

Andrew,

Speaking of "loose wire," have you done the deed yet? The comp box has so much power when you hook up that little wire.

Patiently waiting for a SBC clutch and PDR HX40 turbo... ...

I don't see a Pyro gauge in your sig.

A comp on upper levels while towing may cause you to need to hang a bucket on the end of the tailpipe to catch the melted aluminum from the pistons so you can recycle it to offset the costs of the engine rebuild.

YUP - lots of info - not a whole lot that really and directly answered my specific questions tho'...

"I don't see a Pyro gauge in your sig.

Well heIIs bells! - ya don't see the *Comp* in my sig EITHER - YET!:p

Sky had me wondering if there was some secret danger looming when these things are used for heavy pulling applications - yet I know that MANY guys get them for EXACTLY that purpose - just as *I* am! AND, not being exactly a newcomer here, I'm pretty well aware of the need and importance of monitoring EGT's and a few other parameters - just as I did with my '91 Dodge/Cummins...

I plan on installing fuel pressure, and a combo boost/EGT pillar mount - but WON'T have them in the sig until it HAPPENS - just like the Comp - and NONE of that stuff has even ARRIVED yet, let alone get installed!:p ;) :D

As far as higher settings being functional without the pump wire connected. I haven't a clue - didn't think to ask at the time, but since Aaron at Edge specifically indicated use of level 1 without the pump wire attached, I assume other settings WON'T function, or aren't advised - tho he DID say the jumper connections used to set aggressiveness of power application DO function normally as with the EZ, even without the pump wire connected...

I asked Edge about the upper levels without the pump wire connected, and was told there should be no difference.

It will act like an EZ.

Gary,

No disrespect intended.

I realize that you're no newcommer to the forums, but there are others who have recently up-graded?? to the 24v and may not be familiar with the "Boxes".

I was just trying to prevent a possible thread in the 911 forum. ;)

As long as you watch the gauges, you're on your own.

Maybe you'll be the first to crack the sound barrier towin' a 20,000lb 5er. :D

good luck.

I was just saying that towing in higher levels would put more stress on the truck IMO. Others have said the same. I tow 5k about 800 miles a week and just use level 1 and its more than enough power with out my egts getting out of hand. I have also herd others say they tow on 5x5 so each to his/her own i guess.

Just watch those guages! ;)

HEY guys - no problem - I do this internet stuff for educational and entertainment purposes - it's LOTS of fun - and you'll notice I sprinkle my posts with lots of:D :D and;) ;) ...

I'm retired from the position of Production Manager at the local daily newspaper - a job I held for 26 years - retired 6 years ago at 60, have LOTS of time, and really enjoy this group and the guys here!

I've dabbled heavily in mechanics and electronics/computers/systems most of my life - I've got lots to learn - and on rare ocassion, might actually manage to HELP someone else!;) :D

The men in the brown suits did not stop by today and deliver my package!!! :{ :{ :{ Better be tomorrow before I leave!! I can always install the comp at the campground! :D

Well, I got *MINE* today!:D

NEENER NEENER NEENER... .

Shucks - I'm in no hurry to get mine installed - I really wanna get guages on first so I have some baseline readings to go by before I install the Comp - too bad you're not closer - I'd be happy to give you mine, and then just take yours in exchange when it does arrive...

AS SOON AS

the Ford sells, I'll be ordering a Comp, gauges, and some injectors.

I'm going to dyno before installing the stuff.

and after;)
