nunya,

I don't know that if I am a fair comparison. I tow a 2955 Montana. The book says its max weight is 12,500lbs. I figure most of the time I am around 11,000 lbs trailer weight. Truck is 01 2500 with 100hp injectors, Edge Comp, AFE Intake, HTB2 Turbo, 4 inch exhaust all the way out, with a full DTT auto trany with double deep pan, & 3. 54 gears. I see 150F running down the highway, highest I have seen in the mountains of KY & TN is about 180F on a nice warm, muggy July afternoon. I have the trany temp guage in the double deep pan. I have seen temps around 200F running on the Blue Ridge Parkway mountains on the long, steep grades Last July. Like I said, not sure if it is a fair comparison with two different tranys. The double deep pan will help tremendously though. You will be surprised!

transmission Temp

Last summer With only a 5K LB load in the back of the truck in 90 to 100Deg weather pulling 5K Ft in elevation my transmission was running 180 deg. I was also seeing 180 degree temps in stop and go traffic in 100 degree weather. My transmission sensor is on the return line to the transmission cooler. It normally runs 125 to 150 degrees.

Prior to that I met a retired couple pulling a 15,000 lb trailer with an 05 2500. He ended up blowing out first gear and was having the transmission rebuild by a dealer out of Reno.

I was having the recalls taken care of at the dealer on my truck two weeks ago and was flipping through the new Mopar magazine and in the zine there was an article about a beefed up 48re. I would be interested to know if this is a better solution to some of the after market trannys.

You might want to go to the "Engine and transmission" section and start doing some reading. What I got out of what some of the knowledgeable members were saying is if your transmission temp hits 250 deg stop and change out your transmission fluid. I would assume since you are running at a higher temp you might want to change out the fluid sooner. It would probably be a good idea to have the fluid analyzed.
