My understanding of the difference between extrude honing and EDMing goes like this...

The extrude hone process is where a slurry (Joe Donnelly's word) or oily polishing compound is forced through the tips under high pressure. Extrude honing is used to deburr the interior of the tips. This creates better fuel movement through the tip as well as a improved spray pattern. Lawrence (DD) said the extrude hone process is used by Bosch to "Finish" the product. In this process little material is removed. Evidently there is a chance of creating a problem with the seating of the needle internally.

The EDM process is better for enlarging or making new holes. There is no compromising of the seat in this scenario. We were also warned that multi hole tips could lose their structural integrity. That would mean the possibility of a tip blowing off and rattling around in the combustion chamber:eek: The EDM device uses a electrical charge to create the hole, kinda like a lasor I am told. It is said to be very accurate and consistant.

I have been running EDM'd injectors for a year now and really like them:) We will be using them in pulling trucks this summer along with our new multi hole tips we are working on currently.

I would be interested in finding a couple trucks to run on the dyno with my EDM'd injectors as well as the multi hole injectors at May Madness. Of course we would try them out on the track Friday night tooOo. Oo.

Don's Mach 5's

I just wanted to give my opinion of my latest acquisition. I recieve a nice little white box on friday of last week with a set of DonM's Mach 5 injectors in it. They have been in my truck since friday night and all I can say is wow. Saturday I went to a local dyno event and ran 387hp with the box OFF and 634. 5hp with the box ON. Not only is the hp unbelievable but I just got home from a 400mile trip and got 17mpg running them ;D. That was hand calculated milage as my overhead said like 24. 5mpg the last time I looked at it. I wouldn't recommend them for the street but with a very lite foot you could probably get away with it. The cruise control kinda surges with them as well. If you ever want to turn day into night get yourself a set of these bad boys ;D [laugh].

Keep up the good work Don.

12v EDM Injectors

While in Vegas for the May Madness festival we installed a set of my EDM'd injectors in MADDOG's engine and went from 572 to 690 horsepower!!!Oo. Now that's a jump:D Matter of fact, he jumped right into the lead for modified 12v and received a trophy:cool:

Geez and who thouga squirt stick would do THAT!

He changed more then just injectors, but it was a nice jump in power the next day. Just hope he gets his input shaft issues firgured out so he can play with it.

I can only assume all is well on the EDM Front? Thinking Machs for me (4's) but am still swingin on the fence.

Everything is peachy. I'm pulling my 4's out as soon as a white box shows up from TX, so they can be inspected. In the meantime some slightly bigger ones will take their place, until these are returned to me because I prefer these for daily driving.

I am in LOVE with my EDM's from JR Adkins. See my post on the other thread. I think ole Matt(Holeshotinthehead) is thinking about JR's too. :p

Ok, if i understand this correctly, the EDMs will provide less smoke for a given HP increase over extrude honed units. Which of Donm's injector level will provide me with the same HP or slightly more than DD super mentals. Mach 3's or 4's?? Earlier somebody posted that Dons injectors brought the power in earlier than the DD units. I am very interested in this aspect. When i went from DD3's to supermentals, i felt like the bottom end went away slightly. Thanks for the info.

Mach III's would fit in that range. The IV's are rated around 140 to 150hp or so.

I know a guy in Nacogdoches/College Station who just ordered a set of stage 1 Nuclear Nozzles from JR. He has twins, and was worried about towing. :)

Now i need to decide if i want to stay at the HP level im at or go up. :) How many holes are in these nozzles?? Stock is 7 isn't it?? You guys seriously think they smoke less than honed injectors of the same hp level?? If that is the case, I may be ok with mach iv's. On a side note, anybody every feel like the bottom end went away when they went up in injector size like i stated earlier??

Stock is 7 holes yes.

I know Don has underrated his injectors on purpose for those trucks that just dont make the same power as most others. He also doesn't recommend over a Mach 3 for the street. I have Don's Mach 5's (different tip design than the others) and I can street them with my comp box on 1-1. With the box off they are a little rude on take off or low boost situations.

I believe you do lose some bottom end with larger EH injectors but with EDM's you wont have that problem. Since Don is no longer able to post on here his email is here: -- email address removed --

I stand corrected. He got a set of Black Magic Stage 1's. JR's Nuclear seris are a little different. :)

Huff, thats what i am assuming also. From what i have heard by adding more "smaller" holes you get better atomization than less "larger" holes. Whatever the sizes may be, im sure that's a guarded secret. It makes sense

From what I understand the stock injectors, have 7 holes. can I assume the EDM's have more holes. Merv

Merv,

Here is what Don told me in a email. " the number of holes depends on the set-up of the truck ( Eg. twins or not, total boost, towing rig? etc ) and will vary anywhere from 8, 9, 10, 12 or 14 holes. " Some of the 12 valves may only have 5 or 6, again it depends on set-up"

Don~

Since this is a general EDM thread, I would like to say, my EDM's from JR Adkins are awsome. Some others have had great success with them also. :)
