Some guy on another site is arguing with me that according to Edmunds, a Cummins powered Dodge finished last in acceleration compared to a Ford/6. 0 and a GM 6. 6 diesel despite the Dodge having the lightest trailer.

Anyone have a link to that article?

I have a hunch the article is right, but I also know that the Cummins must be handicapped by the 4-speed transmission. This guy also claims that the higher capacities of the Ford make it a "better" truck, whatever that means.

Dodge *does* indeed lack a package to compete with the Ford tow boss... not entirely happy with Dodge's lack of competitive payload/towing numbers. But not willing to accept this guy's argument that the Dodge isn't as capable a truck, either...

im sure it is slower... . may it be a 6 speed or a 4 speed auto. one thing the V8 designs have over us dodge guys is turbo spool, BUT they dont have torque come in FULLY by 1600 RPM...

i was at a ford dealership the other day looking at rangers for a drive around winter ride... the guy bragged about how "the F-250 has 80% of its torque availible by 1500 rpm" then i shot back saying yeah, but i have more availible at 1600 RPM... he asked how much then i said all and its kinda a flat curve from there till around 2700 rpm or so.

he didnt try to sell me an F-250 after that.

they accelerate faster, but not always by much. they always do flat acceleration tests. i want to see one on a good size hill from a stop...

yes, for does have a higher LEGAL payload and towing capacity... i have seen more dodge duallies towing 3 and 4 car haulers on the road than i have seen fords...

if you want to run a race. . pick a ford or chevy... if that race is up hill... jump into a dodge...

The Ford with the TOW BOSS is also 4:88 geared. Know I guy with a F450 with 19. 5s and it is 4:88 geared. Top speed is 80 MASHED. Not that it needs to go any faster but it turns some Revs at 65/70 mph. Gets terrible mileage, like 6 to 8 depending on what he's pulling.

The adds I've seen were 4:88. I could be wrong, but heck 4:30 is low also. But thats the differance in the weight pulling specs. Take a G56 equiped truck and put 19. 5s and a 4:30 gear under it. Even 4:10s

It may not be the quickest, but let's see where each is in a few hundred thousand miles.

Exactly,, I get grieff for my brother in law and his family since they had Duramax trucks but there is no way they will last aslong as a cummins.

TowBoss for the F350 is the 4. 30 (other F350s can have 3. 73, 4. 10, and 4. 30). The F450-550 chassis cab can have 4. 30, 4. 88, and 5. 38 axles.

Yes that is correct, however if you look into the the the facts of the grade pull you will find it was 60* and a short grade, not by accident either. GM is spinning as fast as their DMAX can, so they don't go broke because the sierra is the only thing they are selling at a profit. 60* ambient was because their early versions overheated when towing at max tow rating and the newer versions run hot and control it by a more aggressive clutch fan which constantly engages, and a larger radiator. The short grade was for the quickness of their DMAX, at the start of the grade they can out run Ford or Dodge however when pulling the long steep grades they lose their momemtum and Dodge will beat it at a steady 2500 RPM (look at signature) at least with my truck specs because I have, pulling grades throughout the Pacific North West. The DMAX will constantly have to down shift to protect the mighty allison when it goes into limp mode. I used to drive a 05 with the 5spd allison at about 10000# due to the 11' service bed and tools and can say these trucks are gutless when already doing 65MPH and you want to pass someone. Also the reason Dodge came in last is because GM doesn't think Ford is a threat due to constant problems of the 6. oh no and they don't want their perspective buyers to look into the durability and awesome pulling power the Cummins have. In short I think it was rigged to favor the DMAX for the advertisement. It is the only test I know of that DMAX has won, or did it?

Aloha guys, maybe thats there point of view. But lets see which one makes it to 500,000 miles. LOLI saw a Second Gen pulling a Peterbuilt tractor up a pretty good grade. Never saw a Ford do that before . Only on the back of a Tow truck heading for the garage to get surgery. I love all 3 of mine no matter what they say.
