I'm getting more and more interested in adding a torque plate to my '97 CTD. What might be the effect of adding a torque plate on exhaust gas temperatures? When pulling a 5000 lb trailer up a hill in overdrive, I'm right at 1200 degree at 55-60 mph. I usually have to back off a little on the throttle to lower the egts--and speed.

Thanks!

When towing on a level road, I am in fourth gear (overdrive) at 60-65; going up a hill it usually drops into third. That's when the egts go up to about 1200 degrees until I back off a little. Once I back off, I usually go up a hill at 50 or so and the egts stay at about 1100 degrees. The engine is generally turning 2300-2500 rpm at these speeds (in third gear).
