What are the good or bad engine effects of replacing the stock turbo with a larger turbo, removing the wastegate and adding a performance chip?

This is on a 1998 24V.

I am trying to determine the benefits and risks to the longivity of the engine with the above modifications.

Thanks.

Are you running stock, or have you already made mods? Perhaps you should create a sig for yourself. It will help to get you better answers faster.

Good Luck!

Removing the Wastegate?

I'm not sure of the type of waste-gate on these CTD but if you remove it you might risk over boosting which might not be a good thing.

If you pierce the pump wire on a 98. 5 you get to see if you have one of the earlier pumps that had clearance issues.

Some of the earlier vp44 would die within a short time if the wire was pierced.

Anytime you increase performance you are going to decrease longevity. So it depends on how much performace you want. In my case I wanted about 400rwhp, I still have the stock turbo, I have to watch my egt temps when towing. Or blasting up hills. I also can break the tires loose in 5th and 6th if the roads are wet. I don't think you will need a larger turbo if you are just adding a box. We need some turbo experts here to talk about the benifits/problems of non wastegated turbos.

Some turbos need a waste gate to stop the turbo from over spooling (turning too fast) Some don't. If the big turbo you buy without a waste gate can provide 60psi, then that might not be a good thing for your head gasket.
