not real familiar with d-max's but know a lot of good running trucks use EFIlive and i hear talk of turning off the pilot injection and post injection, does that make it more effecient? rattle more? what can you expect with the efi. i currently run a simple inline tuner, the edge w/hot unlock and love it but i know you can do a whole lot with efi

Its still 30/60 days out... EFI is turning software. EFI will give you the power to change Tables and parameters... It is out of the box Turning.

EFI Live seems like the way to go with Duramax, so I assume they will use their knowledge and transfer it to the Cummins. I'm under the impression that you have to really know what you are doing if you are to tune these things yourself. Or maybe they come with recommendations or a pre loaded program?? I don't know, but it will be interesting. Still, I don't plan on chucking my Smarty... ... .

I see Smarty just announced a super tuner recently, I got an email about it today, $735. You can adjust pressures and duration yourself.

EFI / SSR either one will allow total destruction of your motor if you have no understanding of what you are adjusting.

I believe both are able to give the tuning capabilities some folks have been asking/waiting for, learning curve ahead... .

I believe you have to have quite abit of understanding.

I think many of the folks on this forum probably have a good understanding of how to tune a diesel engine. Just in case, this training DVD could be helpful. I have taken two classes at EFI University, they do a very good job. I have not purchased this DVD yet but probably will at a later time.

One issue may be finding a static load chassis dyno that is nearby. A lot of shops have inertia type dynos which are not suited for optimizing torque at selected points in the map.

Load dynos are not hard to find at all... .

Both Dyno Com and Mustang(theirs is the 1750) are load control dynos. Most Mustangs are single eddy but can be dual eddy configuration. Most of the Dyno Com jets are duall eddy loads.

One trip to either manufacturers sites and you can find one to use.

I am not worried about it anyway as the EFI crew has been very up front with their NOT knowing when they will have any support for the 03-05 truck owners so I will jsut move on to the newest Smarty SSR.
