Was changing my Crank case filter which I recently found out was needed. So I also checked my EGR valve and cooler as I changed the thermostat. After 86,000 miles there was only a light layer of black soot in the valve and no build up in the cooler. Nothing really even blew out of the valve and it moved easily. So if your truck has hit a bump egr cleaning is not needed. See photo taken with a cheap scope.
