Engine/Transmission (1994 - 1998) EGR and grid heater

OK- sorry if this sounds moronic, but what does the EGR do, how do I tell if my manifold is an EGR manifold, and how can i lose it if it is?



Also, can I remove the heater on the top of the manifold to improve airflow? What would the impacts be? Thanks! -Josh

If you have a EGR manifold you will have a crossover pipe from the exhaust maniflold back to the intake manifold. Get rid of it I put an ATS 3-pc exhaust and an intake from a non-egr and it's quite a difference.

If you take the intake heater off it will be hard to start in cold weather and run rough until it warms up.

Unless you live in a warm/hot climate alll year I would leave it on.
